8. Misinformation is prohibited.

9. No link shorteners.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

TLDR: The guy was posing as a wealthy businessman and the girl, along with her actual boyfriend who was 21 lakhs in debt wanted to kidnap him take the ransom money and kill him anyway. And so they did.

What's the conversion rate for lakh? They killed this guy because his dad couldn't provide 10 lakh. If that's like $20 WTF?

The story says they killed him after the dad tried to give them 3 lakh and they took 20k (!) instead and thought they'd be caught, but she says they killed him before any money was exchanged. What a waste.

Indian numbering is complicated. 10 lakh of something is one million of that thing. 1m INR is about 12k USD.

The average annual income in India is apparently 2 lakhs, so 21 lakhs is definitely significant. After accounting for purchasing power parity, I’d reckon it “feels like” hundreds of thousands USD.

It's pretty significant here. Conversion rates and all. Still money over someone's life is a no no.
