I kind of want the different colors for now. This will be unencrypted until we get universal E2EE that isn’t being gate kept by Google.

That’s a pretty important feature gap, and I want to know if something isn’t secure E2E.

I definitely want to know google has no hand in my data. The colors are good.

My friends who use android use signal.

RCS isn't "gatekept" by Google, it's an open standard. Other companies could set up their own RCS servers but they didn't want to spend the money.

It would be very Apple-y to let people set the bubble color. I hope they do the usual thing of finding a way forward without having to admit they were wrong. It's a bit annoying but better than nothing

Evidence that government regulation of big tech works.

Of course some regulation is better than other, etc. but this is a big win for that side.

I’m honestly shocked. Getting ahead of the newly more agressive FTC?

Nah from their statement it sounds more like they’re only going to support the open standard and contribute to improving it in order to hurt Google and their proprietary implementation.

Apple already said they would NOT support any proprietary encryption, which indicates that they won’t support Google Jibe.

Apple need to get ahead of this before regulators jump in and force RCS without really understanding the protocol.

A lot of people think RCS is just iMessage, but open. Truth is, there are some pretty big gaps around things like encryption, being able to message without a phone number, etc.

Is Google Jibe really a new messaging platform from Google or satire? Because I really can’t tell at this stage.

It’s their implementation of RCS, yeah.

Friggin' finally! I'll finally be able to remove some of those alternative chat apps I don't really like.
