Their content was pretty bad. This was a long time coming.

[–] FartsWithAnAccent@lemmy.world 15 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I didn't even know it was still around. I thought all those websites shut down years ago, apparently not though: Kotaku still seems to be around.

I assumed the Hulk Hogan / Peter Thiel lawsuit killed em all, but guess they held on

[–] gamermanh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 10 months ago

It killed Gawker, their parent company

They were bought by someone else in 2019, but couldn't recover

[–] FartsWithAnAccent@lemmy.world 0 points 10 months ago

Yeah, that's what I thought too.

Several Kotaku writers quit and launched their own operation recently, named Aftermath.

And the Deadspin folks have Defector, while Jalopnik writers have The Autopian. All worthy of your clicks and dollars.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Oooh, I didn't know about The Autopian. TIL

It didn’t used to be. It’s taken a hit over the past few years. It used to be pretty good.

Another editor slapped a guy when "he told me he thought he had breast cancer." (Okay, that one made us laugh really hard.)

Jesus fuck. The guy thinks he has cancer (yes, males can get breast cancer, it's just less common than in women) and not only did she assault him for the thought, but her coworkers finds this assault funny? Fuck these people.

[–] Tedesche@lemmy.world 15 points 10 months ago

Good fucking riddance. Those asshats published an article wherein several of their staff writers joked to each other about physically abusing their male partners.

People need to remember that not all feminists are good people. There really are some misandrist feminists out there. More than most people would like to admit.

[–] gregorum@lemm.ee 5 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (2 children)

Oh, that’s unfortunate. That’s a site I remember fondly for some solid reporting and commentary over the years.

I guess it took a dive over recent years and never recovered.

[–] pulaskiwasright@lemmy.ml 26 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I only remember them for being loose with facts, extra snarky, and full of shallow articles.

[–] hightrix@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago

Same. All I remember of that site were man hating sexist articles.

Good riddance.

[–] PM_ME_FEET_PICS@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

They weren't really feminist either. Just really sexist.

[–] Tedesche@lemmy.world -3 points 10 months ago

Those labels are not mutually exclusive, and it’s only feminists who claim they are.

[–] magnetosphere@kbin.social 2 points 10 months ago (2 children)

There’s a reason your fond memories aren’t recent. Jezebel is officially shutting down now, but it died years ago.

[–] stopthatgirl7@kbin.social 2 points 10 months ago

Yeah, I’m mourning the loss of what it was, not what it has been.

[–] gregorum@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

Yeah. Oh, well.
