Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

You really think these companies are inventing this stuff for your benefit? They will read your mind and force ads into your head so they can profit. It’s all about their profits.

I already communicate without speech, I'm doing it right now to someone I've never met and don't know the identity of, who is receiving only the thoughts I wish to share. Why would I go beyond that?

Besides, I can also share thoughts with those I do know without speech. I text my wife when I don't want the kids to hear our joke, I can even include pictures to get the message across if I don't have the words.

Can't wait to have my thoughts hacked. "Hey guys! I've just decided super-techno-fascism is a fantastic system and I'm so glad to be living under it. Cyber-Leader is great!"

"Guys, I had the ephiphamy of my life while I was sleeping and... so I guess... White... Power?"

looks at mirror

"Hmm... what's wrong my with skin?"

(the person is black btw)

"Haha, this guy left the password on his brain the default admin:admin and I gave him memories of a wife and kids he doesn't actually have."

I have a brain computer interface. It's called fingers. I can use my brain powers to communicate and even move moderately sized things with them.

You are not inside your brain. That’s an outdated concept. You are your entire body.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 13 points 18 hours ago

I don't want it to be real. My inner thoughts are fucked up, and I'd probably be imprisoned for those thoughts. I don't act on them, but boy do they invade my brain.

Any sufficiently advanced technology would be indistinguishable from magic.

[–] GoodLuckToFriends@lemmy.today 4 points 17 hours ago

Should be relatively simple to fuck with that interface though. After all, if you have access to the hardware, no system is truly safe. We'll have enough tinkerers and thinkers that will probably come from the same rich core that gives us FLOSS developers, and they'll have some real fun coming up with ways to fuck with anyone trying to read the machine.

The concept of direct brain interface is both exciting and terrifying.
We struggle to secure offline systems against determined attack, and my brain is not a test bed.

You wake up tomorrow and now you now suddenly love Elon Musk

"Heil Tesla", you say, as you put on your swasticar armband.

Asimov wrote a short story about exactly that: Liar

Great author

No, that’s how you end up with the Borg.

[–] LoreSoong@startrek.website 3 points 21 hours ago

You will be assimilated, resistance is futile. Your technology will be added to our own. Embrace the inevitable.

[–] the_abecedarian@piefed.social 2 points 20 hours ago

So ready to have my brain messages harvested for ad targeting

[–] cattywampas@lemm.ee 2 points 21 hours ago

Would it be telepathy though?

[–] Admetus@sopuli.xyz 1 points 20 hours ago

You don't need to be assimilated into technology to achieve telepathy.
