the next Bandcamp Friday is on May 2nd, all the money from purchases go to the artists that day, without Bandcamp taking the cut

Bandcamp is still owned by Epic Games though.

Edit: Wait, it’s worse. They just sold it to a Songtradr which immediately laid off half of the company.

Well shit. Is there anywhere to actually buy music from the artist?

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 2 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Go to local shows and buy their... Shit, do they even sell CDs still? 🤔

[–] SnortsGarlicPowder@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

Vinyl? But then the band has to have a big enough fanbase, don't think anyone in their right mind would press 100 vinyls to only sell 10.

CDs

Yup. And if you can't find one, you can still get most of that second hand from pages like discogs.

I honestly don't think it's that common anymore, I've seen QR codes for Bandcamp or streaming more than CDs in the last 4 years or so.

But Bandcamp Friday still gives all money to the artists, right? Or have they changed this?

If it’s under new management I’d say all bets are off. Especially when they gut half their workforce. Something tells me they won’t miss axing a program that costs them money.

they've announced how it's going to be continued during this year just over a month ago: https://blog.bandcamp.com/2025/03/04/why-bandcamp-fridays-matter-even-if-youre-not-releasing-new-music/

[–] heavyboots@lemmy.ml 19 points 2 days ago

Oh no. Anyway…

[–] Alchalide@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I already was thinking why it was so slow. I think I'm just going back to Spotify revanced. It's not worth the soon to be 15 euro per month.

[–] Alchalide@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I was wrong, going to 13 euro per month for individual.

[–] _edge@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 2 days ago

15€. I was shocked when it went above 10.

[–] p_kanarinac@retrolemmy.com 1 points 2 days ago

Wait, where? I pay 8.99 for duo, I hope this isn't global.
