That would actually be a net positive as films wouldn't be censored to appease daddy China.

Also films would have lower budgets.

Better if they weren’t censored to appease daddy MIC

Thank goodness they're taking the politics out of movies!

Takes a billion dollars to portray the US military as really cool and badass

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 1 points 2 weeks ago

False dichotomy. Not being censored by China doesn't mean being funded/influenced by the US.

Just in time to be censored to appease chief cheeto

Imagine if we had gotten a storm trooper turned Jedi instead of yet another desert orphan for the star wars sequels, like all the promotional materials before the first movie seemed to hint at.

Kyle Katarn was a better story than anything Disney can do

Also as hollywood gets dunked upon, other film industries have a chance of growth.

Dude, just pirate them and put them in the theaters. Or shit, make them the friday night movie on TV broadcast.

[–] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 5 points 2 weeks ago

That would be hilarious.

Finally American superheroes will no longer need to go to Shanghai and work with a heroic PLA special agent to save the world.

[–] tane@lemm.ee 37 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yup they can just collab with the heroic and completely unproblematic CIA and our boys in blue

[–] blame@hexbear.net 11 points 2 weeks ago

I think you mean All American Heroes in Blue

[–] jack@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago

a heroic PLA special agent

Is there a specific movie where this happens because I would like to watch it?

[–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago

They can have my views too. I ain’t watching shit from America if I can help it.

[–] ToadOfHypnosis@lemm.ee 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Pirate them. Steal your cake and eat it too.

[–] kitnaht@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

I like this idea even better. China pirates them, plays them in theatres, takes the money generated from them anyways, lol

[–] KeenFlame@feddit.nu 4 points 2 weeks ago

Oh god no what will they do without modern Hollywood movies these days

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Marvel slop in shambles.

[–] Freshparsnip@lemm.ee 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I'm worried I soon won't see American media in Canada anymore........and that if I do, it'll all be whitewashed and remove all diversity

[–] EatPotatoes@hexbear.net 1 points 2 weeks ago

Good. Let their own cinema thrive.
