With all the Switch 2 hoopla, I forgot about the weekly thread.

This was also a busy week, as predicted, so didn't get to do any gaming at all. Things should be getting back to normal though.

Plan to play Dragon Age: The Veilguard over the weekend, and then continue Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition from Monday.

What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?

Finished Tevi!

Another excellent metroidvania.

It's a on the easier side compared to others I've played recently (Ender Magnolia and Rabi-Ribi), so if you want a challenge you should play it on hard, but other than that the only thing I have to complain is some occasional slowdowns on hectic moments, but they weren't too bad and didn't that hurt my enjoyment of the game.

And it looks like there's some Story DLC being developed for this, so I'll probably pick it up again in the future.

Playing Xenoblade X!

This is slightly improved port of a 10 year old WiiU game and it still looks fantastic. And I had forgotten how massive this world is until I spent close to 2h just exploring the city. 😆

Still fairly early in the story (Chapter 3), but I spent quite a bit of time going around the region near the city adding probes for FrontierNav and completing some quests. Will move on with the story now since I want to unlock more characters and better gear.

Wow, did not expect someone to shout-out Tevi! That and Rabi are great (although Tevi isn't nearly as hard lol)

[–] Phelpssan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Played Rabi-Ribi earlier this year and it was an incredibly pleasant surprise, so much that it got me to look into other games from the same developer.

After finishing Tevi I'm definitely recommending both, though I prefer Rabi-Ribi for its more unique aspects (extreme non-linearity, crazy amount of bosses and higher challenge).

although Tevi isn’t nearly as hard lol

I'm still trying to beat Rabi-Ribi's post game. 😆

Yeah, the city is really huge. I started Chapter 3 and went to explore the city, still haven't completely explored it.

Probably spend way too much time playing Metaphor over the last week and I don't plan on stopping. Shin Megami Tensei is one of the few franchises, along with Xenoblade and Dragon Quest, to always capture me like this. Metaphor isn't a SMT game by name, but by heart it's just Persona 6 - I highly recommend it.

[–] 73CC@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

But it's a mix of Visual Novel and Persona, isn't it?

[–] Phelpssan@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I played it earlier this year. It's Persona with a fantasy setting and the SMT battle system.

[–] De_Narm@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Nope, it's just like Persona 5 - part dungeon crawler and part social sim. If anything, it's less social sim than P5 was. Of course, the game is still quite wordy, but that's par for the course when playing a JRPG.

Started replaying Pokémon Sword the other day, need something super low key as the wife and I are laid up with the flu.

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Hope you both get well soon!

Currently catching up on Fire Emblem Engage! Loved Three Houses a lot, but from the media reception I already knew Engage wouldn't be as good as 3H. And indeed, the story is mediocre compared to it. However, I still like the FE gameplay anyways, so it's just been fun!

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I heard actual levels are pretty good. What do you think?

[–] Phelpssan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Not OP, but dropping my $0.02: In terms of map design and gameplay Engage is Top Tier in the franchise. Story is mediocre, though I did enjoy the cast way more than I expected.

I think the only FE game I've played that I rank higher on gameplay is Fates: Conquest.

This year's focus is Nintendo first party games, so I may end up playing Engage soon-ish, but it's probably going to take me 3-4 months just to finish XCX, so who knows.

I’m was so excited for the Bravely Default II crossover in Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent that I decided to up to 4500 rubies (the in-game currency that you can buy or slowly accumulate) on getting Ringabel in the gactha portion of the game. After one 300 ruby 10-pull, I got him! Since I had decided to spend the currency, I went for the other crossover character and pulled Gloria using only two more 300 ruby ten-pulls. Happy days!

I just started Chapter 5 in Xenoblade Chronicles X. I feel like there are five times as many party members in this game, so I got distracted by heart-to-hearts and affinity quests. Just like chapter four, I decided “well, I’m done with affinity quests for now. Let’s advance the main story” only to reach the barracks and see that an affinity quest needed to be completed first. Ha!

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Wow, that's a good gacha system if you got them in so few tries. Congratulations!

Heh, sounds fun. I haven't played since my last comment. Still in start of chapter 3, exploring NLA.

I've finally started Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and I'm really enjoying it. It's a fun take on the standard Pokemon game, and I'm excited to see where it goes. I've almost completed the Scarlet DLC (just need 2 more group BBQs and the related legendaries), and I've been enjoying a bit of shiny hunting there, which isn't something I've ever enjoyed in the past. I hear it's even more fun in Legends: Arceus, which is very exciting.

[–] ladel@feddit.uk 1 points 1 week ago

I felt that shinies were somehow more common in Arceus than Scarlet. I guess it's not too difficult in Scarlet if you can make enough of the right kind of sandwich, but in Arceus they simply seem to spawn randomly more often.

My friend keeps referencing a quote from Samurai Warriors (the first one, PS2 era) so on a lark I surprised her with a co-op session via parsec. Best musuo era, for sure, although that acting makes us both laugh. (I never played it, why is Nobunaga Oda a Japanese Darth Vader?!)

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Isn't it too dated now?

Also, I am curious, what's the quote?

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Graphically, it's a little silly in curscenes but everything else holds up except for a weird level up system. The combos and combat are somehow better than later games since it's tougher and every enemy counts (polygon counts keep it from the comical amounts in later games where you attack once and like 50 people die). Every character gets a campaign with multiple endings, too, which is something I missed.

The quote is Okuni's "a dreeaaaam, an illusioooon~" monologue in her ending because the VA is uh... not great, and my friend does the voice spot on.

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

lol, watched the video. The game looks seems fine, but you are correct about the VA 😀
