Explanation: The American entry into WW1 occurred shortly after the German Empire made an incredible unforced error with the Zimmermann telegram, offering an alliance with Mexico in exchange for American territory in the case that America entered WW1. America at that time had no intention of entering WW1, but we sold a great deal of materiel to Britain and France (a lesser amount to the German Empire due to the effective naval blockade carried out by the UK), and the German Empire was concerned that was going to tip the scales in the Entente's favor.

Turns out active US involvement in the war was a bigger influence in the Entente's favor than Britain and France getting price gouged by American businessmen.

The story how the British ended up intercepting it is pretty funny. They continued to use a codebook that was previously abandoned. The international cables were cut by the Brits so the Germans had to rely on the Americans to route the message through. On the way it passed through the Brit who managed to decode it.

Some comedy movie stuff lol
