The funny thing is, charging him with terrorism is one of the dumbest things they've ever done.

Because they're calling a guy most of America is in love with a terrorist.....

That and it'll be really hard to get that to fucking stick.

The terrorism charge is because that's the only way New York state can charge first degree murder. Weird as hell law.

[–] AFaithfulNihilist@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They want to punish him harder than the law would allow so they're charging him with something he clearly didn't do? Am I understanding that correctly?

There are plenty of weird laws out there, but if the state is going to pull tricks like this, then do the laws mean anything or are they just weapons to be redefined at will?

Well, we have an incoming president that, per the constitution!!!, is now illegal to hold office, and has committed countless hundreds of crimes that we know of and has yet to face actual consequences under our law, who's win was also bought by a billionaire, which was quasi-legal at best, and the current president pardoned his son. And we have an entire legal system from SCOTUS on down that takes bribes and favors and will overturn any law that doesn't suit their overlords and oligarchs. And speaking of, most of our oligarchs, have never faced prosecution or consequences for all their innumerable illegal and deplorable actions over decades and decades. And to top it all off, we have an entire police and "justice" system that murders people on the streets or in their homes every day and at worst gets paid ~~leave~~ vacation for a few weeks for them to sweep it under the rug or maybe they have to transfer to another department. But never any actual consequences except in the few rare cases where we notice and raise enough noise that they have to appease us, but then go right back to ignoring and hiding them when we don't see.

So, no. The laws do not apply to them, never have. The laws are to keep us peasants in line. We live in an oligarchy that is pretending to be a democracy.

I think it's long past time to overturn it.

…properly in a sentencing

That’s some good shit.

"Sentencing", as in determining a sentence (punishment or remedy) for a crime. Still incorrect, though, since he was only charged at this point, not sentenced.

[–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

Completely agree. If I was the headline writer I’d have considered myself fucking brilliant but held it back because he isn’t sentenced and it’s inaccurate.

But then I thought deeper and considering the terror charge, image above, and US justice system - and decided maybe it is accurate that he’s effectively sentenced.

Terrorism straight up just means "violence but offensive to the particular sensitivities of the elite." Always has. Go back to the Paris Commune and it's the same shit.

they are really this stupid. ladies and gentlemen the "ruling class":

"lets just throw in the word terrorism so it sounds veeery serious and people will stop rooting for him"

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago

And the opposite happened, we rooted for him even harder

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

Looks like a nice album cover.

Not to be confused with the famous visual artist, Phil McCracken.
