Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted, clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts: 1

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
    • If you feel strongly that you want politics back, please volunteer as a mod.
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I have spare anxiety to sell, if you need more.

I'll give you 50c on the dollar!

Why do all the positive things have to involve chatting?

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

If you prefer, you could do some positive things that don't. Go on a walk while picking up any trash you see.

I love doing this, and bought a picker so that I could do it hands free. Feels satisfying and really community minded.

Good on you!

Tonight my wife’s phone needed to be fixed and I needed a battery replacement. We spent the whole evening hanging out at the mall with no phones and had a great time just goofing around and wandering.

It almost felt like being a teenager again.

I’m thankful that my being around each other turns a long boring chore into a pretty fun evening.

Tried to to do this today, and my coworker replied to me with, “well have you heard that the CEO of UH was gunned down in Manhattan this morning?”

Wasn’t the kind of chill I was expecting

Way to start the day with a positive vibe!

Do people not chat with their spouses on a daily basis?

[–] BeatTakeshi@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Chill? Wasn't a cold shower thought was it?

In the next 7 days do something positive.

Chat with your neighbour about something.

There's a particular neighbour I'd gladly have a chat with, with my words spoken by a baseball bat.

Chat with a coworker not about work.

That's difficult in academia.

Chat with your spouse.

We do.

Chat with your kids.

I try to, buyt he's a teenager and his attention span at the moment is 10 seconds or less. Hope it improves with time.

Funnily enough I was thinking of popping over to my neighbour’s to help him take down a wall… with his face.

[–] Engywuck@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago

That's the way.
