Huh, why'd he leave Xbox? Unity seems like a shit show to join.

I don't think these people care that much about the quality of the products the companies they join make.

Yeah, but wasn't Unity a sinking ship? I though developers started moving to alternatives after they announced the runtime fee

He might just stick around a while to get his money's worth then ditch it, or maybe he'll stick around so long as the money's good enough.

I think he'd probably ask for too much money, which in Godot's case would be better spent elsewhere.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Following his departure from Microsoft last year, where he was a public face for the Xbox brand, Hryb will be joining Unity’s Community team, he announced on Monday.

“Unity’s mission of empowering creative and business success of creators around the world across games, apps, and experiences aligns with my lifelong passion for innovation and community building,” Hryb wrote in the post.

“I am eager to collaborate with the talented developers and creators who use Unity’s tools to bring their visions to life.

Together, we’ll continue to transform the way stories are told and experiences are shared.”

Last year, the company pissed off developers with a new pricing scheme that it changed in response to outcry.

Unity also announced layoffs affecting about 25 percent of its employees in January.
