My highest job is lvl 49(trying to grind up to 50 to continue MSQ), and I can't seem to find anything that lets me participate.

Finish arr and you'll be set. The final 2 dungeons are the lvl 50 ones you can farm the event with.

Cool, I finally finished them and unlocked them. I am a little worried that my main is a tank, but I haven't really played with other people yet, so hope I can tank okay for regular players. So far I've done NPCs for all but one dungeon.

You'll do great! People generally anticipate big pulls from tanks, so don't stress if you die at times. As long as you're using mitigation and not standing in Bad, it's mostly on the healer to keep you up. Stay positive and communicative and you'll be fine :)

A bunch of stuff at level 50 will give event tomes as well

PVP should still let you farm tomestones

Free trial players can't do PvP, I don't think

Correct. Which kinda sucks for this event since that seems to be the best way to get tomes.

There are some level 50 MSQ dungeons/trials that award event tomestones

Sucks that they ditched aurum vale, that would have been perfect
