Who is this man?

Some random white dude in historical clothing.

How does his death help us?

I don't know, should I be concerned? Is this man in danger!?

Why is it important that we remember him?

I don't who this dude is, why do you want him dead? Should I contact the authorities!?

Holy crap, that's Greg Smitherson. He is the pastors wife's ex-husband. He's a pastor at a mega church down town and is super successful.

When some disfigured guy in the cantina starts telling me that he and his ugly friend don't like me, this is who I pray to.

I think there already is one. Jedism or some such name

Yup. Apparently they are even formally recognized as a church and as such have tax exempt status with the IRS.

Interestingly, their creed is apparently adopted from the Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi, while the remainder of their tenets seem to be adopted from various sources, including Buddhist teachers such as Thich Naht Hahn, Christian writer C.S. Lewis, and New Age teachers such as Eckhart Tolle and Deepak Chopra.

The force ghosts are a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
