You'd think of all the people that could persuade members to change their minds it would be unions. Just point out who was running the DOL under Trump and who is running it now. Same with the Supreme Court, which is currently taking a case that could just outlaw the NLRB.

Blue collar dudes are surprisingly okay with leftist ideas if you don't use the "bad words." But if the group's too big there will be someone from their Politburo who realizes what you're talking about and starts hurling feces.

True. I work with some of the most (blind) Trump-loving southern rednecks who will talk all day about how much they hate the rich, don't give two shits about Marijuana, and just want to be left alone. It's equal parts sad, infuriating, and endearing.

I lived in prime Trump Country during 2016, and a couple people told me that they admired Bernie because he was honest and also hated billionaires.

Plus I had a few guys on the verge of staging a takeover of the local concrete plant until Der Kommissar pointed out that I was describing a socialist cooperative.

"Yeah, that sounds like a really good idea and could help us all make more money"

"BuT tHaT's SoCiaLiSm"

"Well fuck, I guess I hate it now"

And that's why Bernie would've had a better chance against Trump in the general election than Hillary did. But neoliberals and partisan Democrats absolutely hate having that truth being pointed out to them.

I'm just glad someone finally decided it wasn't worth the time or effort to "understand Trump supporters" like there is some magic words to get the to realize he's a con man. It's been over 8 years, if they are MAGA now they will probably never stop. Focus on the Haley voters and win the elections you can.

We gotta get Democrats to understand this. There is no middle. Stop worrying about appealing to the sociopaths and appeal to people far more likely to vote for you.

What's fucked up is that I bet you there's a bunch of Trump supporters in the labor unions. I'm part of a union and too many of my brothers and sisters are conservative voters, despite conservatives being openly hostile towards unions.

Par for the course. Take all you can take and give nothing in return is their motto

[–] Shadywack@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago

I've seen this too, the ones who bitch the most will trash the union and the company, but seldom if ever actually show up at union meetings. It's inherited from a culture of apathy, and this "give nothing in return" is a big issue.

Usually the democrats at least show up to the meetings, conservatives bitch and do nothing.

But they shit their pants explicitly hoping you'd have to smell it and react to it! No fair no fair no fair!

Just a reminder about union endorsements, especially this one:

Rank and file are still the same dumbasses that vote against their own interests.

Well that was also four years ago. Unions have done work since then. It would be interesting to see if things have changed.

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago

Don't know but considering they didn't release the results of the vote probably says something.

[–] Dreizehn@kbin.social 5 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I fully agree, but there are plenty of blue-collar workers that support the orange turd.

There are a lot of lost causes in this world. There is a skill in recognizing them. Sometimes because you want to hitch a ride on principle, other times to ignore them as a waste of time and energy that you could put to good use elsewhere.

It is what it is.
