Most recently, on Wednesday, a "congress of deputies of all levels" convened in Tiraspol, Transnistria's nominal capital, and passed a resolution to ask Russia for protection in the face of "increasing pressure" and the "economic war" unleashed by Moldova.

The majority of Moldovans are pro-Europe, many hold Romanian β€” and therefore EU β€” passports, and hundreds of thousands work in EU countries.

But Pro-Russian parties, which are financed among others by the Israel-based pro-Russian oligarch Ilan Shor, are waging bitter campaigns against pro-EU President Maia Sandu and the pro-Western government of Prime Minister Dorin Recean. Social media there are also awash with pro-Russian propaganda and disinformation.

A presidential election and a referendum on the country's accession to the EU are due to be held this fall. According to Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi, the authorities are "already seeing attempts to destabilize the situation" in the country.

Russia's next war will be in Russia.

Yup. Russia's REALLY good at fucking with it's literal geographic neighbors.. ... I would love to see Russia try to support a few battalions of LGM supplied and supported across the black sea between Sevastopol and Transnistria. You think they're losing ships and aircraft in scads now, let them try please. Oh man.

Russian foreign minister Lavrov threatens "Moldovan regime" over Transnistria. He compares Moldova with Ukraine and says that "the situation is identical."

@0x815 He also said that "Russia will not invade Ukraine," a few days before they did.

I mean, so did almost everyone, including me

Yeah, me too. I honestly didn’t think Putin would try to reestablish the USSR.

Good luck actually getting Russian reinforcements and supply to Moldova. The sea, air, and land routes have Ukraine in the way. They aren’t going to let Russian troops freely move.

From the article:

Most recently, on Wednesday, a "congress of deputies of all levels" convened in Tiraspol, Transnistria's nominal capital, and passed a resolution to ask Russia for protection in the face of "increasing pressure" and the "economic war" unleashed by Moldova.

Vadim Krasnoselsky, the "president" of Transnistria and Sheriff's former head of security, accused the authorities in Chisinau of "genocide" against the people of Transnistria.

I'm disappointed by Russian propaganda. They should have thrown in the word Apartheid and accused Moldova of illegal settlements. Are the Russians even trying? Common, you can do better exploiting the suffering of other people!

Growing up during the Cold War, I admit that I never expected to see pro-Russian oligarchs openly operating out of Israel. It truly feels like I’ve fallen into some bizarro mirror universe.
