yep my "companion" cat and my first cat don't figh but they ignore each other to the max. lol Some times they hiss but thats all. They really don't like each other.
Mine are brothers and even then, they always try to groom each other and it immediately and infallibly turns into chasing each other around the house. Otherwise they’re chums, but as soon as the tongue is out it’s rumble time.
I've found that when mine used to do that it was because one decided they were going to clean the shit out of the other, so he'd grab the other with both paws by the head as he licked away, all the while digging his claws into the face. I had to intervene a few times, but it's hard to know when they're doing it because they're so quiet.
Mine will do full on make out sessions grooming each other's faces, and other times one will grab the other in a headlock and start grooming. Other times they will be cuddling, and one starts grooming the other, who is clearly enjoying it. Then she decides she doesn't want it anymore and it turns into a slap fight in the bed before becoming another make out session.
Cats are weird sometimes
Mine were immediately best friends, but they wrestle with each other all the time. They cuddle, groom, explore, and squabble all day with each other
Tbf the oldest one I found in a box, in the rain, with one of her paws badly injured. In addition to the injury she also had sporotricosis, a horrible cat skin disease) but it was neutered and had a collar. She is very afraid of everything, people, sounds, rain... May be she is too trumatized to be friendly. But she is a love bug and it's the queen for most of her life
I was definitely lucky to have a perfect storm where they were just kittens ~ a month apart in age, and i had only had the older one for 2 weeks when i saved the second. Mine are also abnormally social and friendly cats. I'm just saying that even cats that are best friends will still wrestle and rough house with each other, and sometimes even fight, same as kids will fight with their siblings.
I too was naïve enough to think that since my girl was shy around people I needed to solve that by getting her a companion. I wasn't aware growling was something cats did until making that mistake. It's especially weird because I don't think I ever heard her hiss. Her growl was very intimidating to me, but not to the kitten. Okay little man, I'm not sure she wants to play today.
I think she was mad about that decision for a long time.
Our cats also ignore each other, but they also have this game where they chase each other around the house. They seem to enjoy it.
I am the companion cat that chases my cat around the house, he loves that shit
We have a sibling pair that doesn't get along completely for some reason, but our third stray oddball is the glue that holds this house together. He cuddles, plays with, and bites both in the 'ass' when they're not looking. He has something to give to everyone. It's adorable.
