I'm on the autism spectrum, with very low support needs. My health care provider has that in my medical records. Now I'm worried that I'm going to disappear into some camp, and my wife will never know what happened.
I've never been happier not to have an official diagnosis. My wife and I are considering our options.
Ireland? New Zealand? We both have semi in demand skills. I'm a tradesman and she's a social worker. Realistically we're stuck here but looking at what we might be able to do
The psychologist who did like a shortened test on me actually recommended against going further and also getting diagnosed by a psychiatrist if I don't want any official support. Just not worth a lifetime of discrimination within the medical system. I'm noticing it happening with my ADHD diagnosis. That one's worth the discrimination though, since the treatment is a life saver (potentially literally).
Agreed, treatment changed my ADHD life. And it's still nowhere near removing all of the symptoms

RFKjr is setting up a national autism registration and he’s already proposed to send neurodivergent people to farms. It’s pure Nazi eugenics.
My pet goldfish was also sent to a farm when I was a kid. Sending people to farms sounds like a euphemism for extermination.

I did a search, and discovered articles pointing to sending addicts to farms. I couldn't find anything similar for neurodivergent people.

The article specifically states that the reason for getting this info is to link with other datasets to look for causes for the increase in autism cases.
It makes no mention of farms for neurodivergent people. That’s some nonsense.
He's "looking for a cure" that he knows doesn't exist. This is eugenics.
Where do yall come up with this stuff, and do you actually believe it? He’s attempting to find the CAUSE of autism by joining datasets. Any mention of CURE would be in the context of curing society of the problems causing it. That’s all.

Autism and ADHD are naturally occuring neurotypes. It's like trying to pray the gay away, and they know it. Consider this and the context in which it's coming up - immigration, gay/trans fearmongering, a sudden and completely wrong approach to "curing" autism. This guy isn't talking to the best and brightest in the field for a reason. History may not repeat, but it rhymes. There was a famous book burning. It was LGBTQ+ research/materials. Look into who Asperger actually was. They're coming after queer and disabled people first.

We already know that autism isn't caused by vaccines, and if anything, the reverse is true. Yet we have a guy with zero medical background peddling this and antivaxxer nonsense at the top of HHS. If you still can't see a connection between stuff like this and social darwinism/eugenics, you can start by looking at someone he wants working on this. He worked with his father, and they experimented on autistic children. His father lost his medical license over it.

When some rich guy comes outta nowhere and tell you that vaccines are bad, and folks with addictions, mental disorders, or happen to be a bit different from most just need to work on a farm for a while, your first thought shouldn't be "wow, he's really trying to help people." If you're still stanning this jackass after all of the above, I don't know how else to help you, but I definitely know you haven't worked very hard on answering your own questions above. Maybe a farm is hiring, IDK, but I'm done here.

But you lost me when you jump from rehab (on farms) for addicts and adhd to farms for neurodivergents.
This is where a leap happens that I’m not following and I believe is baseless, but I’m trying to uncover that.
If it’s simply based on his desire to try that treatment for some conditions and assuming he will suggest it for this one, I personally don’t think that’s a fair leap, but respect your desire to think it is. If there is more to back up this theory, I’d like to hear it.

That has nothing to do with autism. He’s never even insinuated that neurodivergent people need nature and “farming” to recover.
Interesting opinion in the article though. I’m pretty interested in his full idea/plan with mental health treatment. I recovered from a lifetime battle with alcohol at a men’s spiritual recovery center which operates on similar principles. So I have a unique view into that.
Again tho, completely unrelated to his investigation into the causes of autism. Why are you conflating the two things?
I wasn't trying to conflate the two things. I was providing a source on where the "farms" came from, and clarified that they were meant to help "drug addicts" (not minimizing your experience- just reinforcing that the wording is already not great from a lens of treating maladaptive substance use, in addition to being completely inappropriate for people who take prescribed medications.)
I neither agreed not disagreed, though I do find it problematic to be enrolling people who are neurodivergent into any kind of list for any reason without their expressed consent and ability to withdraw that consent at any times. If the reason is purely investigation/research as you say, then I believe that it should be under the same rigor and ethics considerations as any other research.
It’s NIH doing it. I don’t think there’s any reason to think the standards would be any different.

That seems to be complete nonsense. RFKjr is working to determine the cause of the increase in autism rates by linking datasets. Specifically looking into correlation with vaccines.

If that really was his objective he wouldn’t have cancelled NIH funding into research on autism. You are either ignorant or disingenuous.
?? Trump made cuts to agencies across the board - that’s not an RFK thing. So yeah, some research funding to autism related studies is affected. Primarily through the DoEd cuts.
It wasn’t targeted, and even if it was, trying to link defunding with an initiative to find causes by joining datasets seems either disingenuous or ignorant.
