One of the main storyline NPCs is a well thought out and respected trans individual.

Seems like they put about as much thought into the naming as the JKR put into naming a lot of her non-white characters...

Is Sirona Ryan a reference to something that I don't know?

"Sir"ona Ryan, is what people speculate.

Oh.... ok... I guess if they really want to invalidate the efforts that were actually gone to so they can keep justifying not playing it. They can ignore that the character is well written and just prominent enough to not feel forced, but you aren't gonna miss it either.

Yeah I think it's a bit of a stretch. Though some people claim that because she's not explicitly called trans in the game, she isn't trans. Though that debate is mostly held in the dark depths of the Steam discussions.

Yeah, the fact that it's not even directly brought up, just strongly alluded to and tangentially referenced is part of what makes it such a good representation. It's not an important aspect of the character, or relevant to the story. It's just normal. It feels the same as hanging out with your real life trans friends, they don't all stand around talking about what gender they are, despite some people seeming to picture it that way, hehe.
