Canadian industry experts, union leaders issue dire warnings about tariff effects

Several premiers are decrying U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to impose punishing tariffs on virtually all Canadian goods and calling for a powerful retaliatory response from Ottawa and the country as a whole.

Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey said on Saturday that "we're in a moment that is historic, an existential threat to the country. It's not just an economic attack β€” I believe this to be an attack on Canadians, an attack on their values, on our sovereignty.

"It's a moment where we need to stand strong and united in such an assault," Furey told CBC News.

Trump doesn't care about Smith, he doesn't want to lose $upport from the CEOs of ExxonMobil, Chevron, and the other petro companies.

Trudeau seemed to care too much about Smith in his response, as if LPC will win a seat in that province. US Petroleum Institute (lobbyists) said only that they were working with Trump (not Canada) on objectives, though did say they prefer no tariffs. US industry needs to make statements more supportive of Canada than they are so far.

It should be commended that he's working with the premiere and not just worried about his party's seats. Smith is the problem.

we'll see how on board she stays, but splitting export tax with province is best applied early.
