As many as 80% of people with schizophrenia smoke. If you go to a psych ward everyone is a smoker.

And how does that change anything? These people with actual mental illnesses do it so it must be good? I don't follow your line of reasoning.

When you’re suicidal you do not care about your health at all and so because smoking feels good, they do it not giving a shit about the consequences.
