Can't lock up your kid because you're scared of the world. Sure, there's a chance they end up traumatized or worse because of some predator out there. But statistically this is a very low chance - you should be more worried about your friends and family.

While the chances of them being abused by someone like this is uncertain, having them grow up sheltered and without independence is certain to mess them up. Kids need to grow and explore and take risks. Without this you stunt their eventual development.
