There does exist biological plastic made of plants. That might work as an equivalent to e cigarettes

[–] IamSparticles@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What it's made from is irrelevant. Plastic doesn't break down in the gut and can cause dangerous blockages.

True but micro plastics is extra bad I think

Micro plastics come from the balls.

I put them in my stir fry, it really makes the noodles pop.

Weren't the first plastics made of the original biopolymer? Celluloid from cellulose?

[–] DeathsEmbrace@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Shit I’d argue chitons the first plastic.

[–] NegativeInf@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Fair. Both are sufficiently ancient, but cellulose bearing species diverged earlier chitin bearing ones. Exact timing on it tho is nebulous. So either will do.

I only mention cellulose specifically because it is the historic precursor to the first man made plastic, celluloid. But there are now processes to convert chitin to chitosan, which is a moldable plastic.

Donno but sounds plausible
