Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

“How do you write an environmental science book to appease people who are opposed to climate change?”

They're not opposed to climate change. We're all opposed to climate change. They simply deny that it exists to keep the corporate profits flowing to their big, rich donors.

The irony is climate change doesn't care if they exist or not, either.

I've said that about a great many things over the last few years. One of my favorites is, "The Covid virus doesn't care whether you believe that it exists or that it will kill you or people that you love. It doesn't have a dogmatic political identity. It's a strand of RNA. It is apolitical."

The people pushing this don't care, they will be rich enough for the short term effects to not affect them. After that they will be dead from old age. They just want to extract the max before they leave this place, as is their tradition as the boomer generation.

It's our children and our children's children who are in big trouble and they have proven many times not to give a fuck about children.

I call that pro-climate change. They clearly favor accelerating it.
