Just give it to Freeland already. She is way smarter than Trudeau and Pollievre.

[–] AnotherDirtyAnglo@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I like her more than both, but her public speaking savvy is... well... it needs a lot of work.

I'd be willing to accept that over what the other two idiots are offering.

I wanna see Freeland mop the floor with Poilivere’s head for being such a corporate fascist and a racist.

I would like like to see PP's bullshit called out on a regular basis. He railed against the proposed capital gains tax, but it doesn't appear that anyone pointed out the huge conflict of interest he has -- his personal wealth has (apparently) been built on real estate investing / exploitation.

Only seen Conservatives and conservative media push this because they know she will lose even harder

How does Chrystia Freeland compare to Justin Trudeau?

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Politically or in popularity?

Politically we have to assume they are the same due to their positions

Popularity wise, she is a woman which unfortunately is already a bad thing in Canadian politics. And media has been framing her as bitchy. She gets blamed for a lot if things that I feel of she were a man people would just shrug at

Past that though, she lacks charisma and the Trudeau brand

[–] Beaver@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago

Ah those are valid reasons. Dang I didn't know it was conservative talking point. I was just worried that Justin Trudaeu's branding might be his archiles heel.

Honest question, why do you think that? I've never been impressed by her, but I'm likely missing a lot.

Freeland completed a bachelor's degree at Harvard University, studying Russian history and literature before earning a master's degree in Slavonic studies from the University of Oxford. She worked as a journalist in Ukraine and eventually held editorial positions at the Financial Times, The Globe and Mail and Reuters, becoming managing director of the latter. She also authored Sale of the Century: Russia's Wild Ride from Communism to Capitalism (2000) and Plutocrats: The Rise of the New Global Super Rich and the Fall of Everyone Else (2012).

Thanks for that. I get that she's academically accomplished but I'm more interested in her political accomplishments. Like others have mentioned she is not a great public speaker and I haven't been particularly impressed by her budgets...

She's fairly new, I guess Mark Carney will be next leader. He will give Pollievre a run for his money.

She seems more down to earth then Justin Trudeau
