I would think it's for people who want to leave their PC hooked up to their PC and use it exclusively as a gaming console

Yeah I imagine it'd work great for an exclusive HTPC/10ft UI.. steam's big picture mode on Windows was often a bit awkward/buggy for me (I have it hooked up to my living room TV via HDMI)
