Makes it a little harder to feign ignorance about what's going on there...

Anyone who knows the CIA knows that it's impossible for the US to feign ignorance on anything. I haven't been paying attention, are they really trying to feign ignorance?

Well, Biden is pretending it's not important enough to matter, and also backing up IDF's claim on everything.

Can't wait for 2023 middle east handbook to be released by the CIA about 70 years from now which will probably confirm they were watching every missile in the sky and cracking jokes with the IDF pilots on comms.

Being rogue doesn't mean they are aware, they didn't stop the biggest attack on American soil so I'm not going to assume they're competent because they are pervasive and scary.

Not seeing a carefully planned terrorist attack coming is vastly different than observing a conflict out in the open. Also, do you really think that signals intelligence collection hasn't improved since 2001?

[–] Squizzy@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Yes and in 2001 it had improved from when the CIA had been formed. That argument doesn't really stand up, of course there will be more progress as time goes on but their responsibility was the same then as it is now.

Their job is to see carefully planned attacks is it not? Wouldn't require much signals intelligence collection if they took out ads on the side of buses outlining their intentions.

I think the only thing they really care about is the American hostages. Anything and everything else is just politics and diplomacy that they'll get around to if it becomes a PR issue. PR wise, the US is already claiming it has stepped in to get Israel to step it down some of its measures, but they aren't going to step back when it involves outside parties like Iran playing proxy war in Israel through Hamas, even if it does screw Palestinians who have little say either way.
