Absolutely fell in love with this piece and dove into the rabbit hole of his work. I think I just found my new favorite artist.

I used to work in Leeds and some of the buildings from the mid-late 1800s are still there. Sadly it's mostly banks and finance offices now. There are still churches at both ends, but they're hidden by bigger buildings and aren't quite straight on down the street like this.

This isn't related to the paiting, but I believe it was also the first street in Britain to have a traffic light.

This work was finished in 1882, and is a work of the romantic art movement in Europe. This means there are no definable figures (like Jesus or Napoleon), instead it focuses on emotion or an emotion the artist wants to portray.

This was most likely created by projecting an image onto a canvas and painting on top of it, as was a common creation method for Grimshaw.

Leeds is a city in the longitudinal middle of Britain, Northeast of Liverpool. Park row is a main thouroughfare there, at the time it was mostly businesses.

While you're looking at this work, what emotions are you feeling? What do you think the artist was trying to portray? Do you think your interpretation agrees with his?
