Israel’s foreign minister has said that an arms embargo on his country would lead to the elimination of the Israeli state and “a second Holocaust”.

Gideon Saar was speaking on Tuesday at an international conference on antisemitism in Jerusalem.

The eliminiation of the Israeli state doesnt have to cause a second holocaust. Just go back to where you, your parents and your grandparents lived before you invaded other peoples homes.

But it's way easier to kill some people in the Middle East and give their land away than taking actual responsibilty for the Holocaust.

And more profitable 💰

Netanyahu would have to go back to Philadelphia

Sir, Philadelphia is on the line. They say it's urgent.

I'm firmly against the Palestinian genocide, but, isn't this a little ridiculous? Shouldn't we just focus on ending the killings and stopping further colonization?

Like, as a 4th generation Canadian, do I need to go back to Ireland to make up for my great great grandparent's generation's gross history of colonial genocide?

You don't need to evict Jewish people to end Zionism.

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The difference is that there are quite a lot of Palestinians alive today who had their homes stolen, and Israel keeps stealing more everyday. And they do it because they have always been allowed to keep what they stole in the past.

Yeah, so give Palestinians right of return. There's plenty of land there to share. Make Israelis pay reparations.

Like how is the land I'm living on not functionally stolen? My entire country used to be Indigenous land, and it became as it is because it was "allowed" (forced).

The Jewish children who were born there aren't colonists, and they shouldn't have to suffer for their parents' colonial acts.

The main imperative is to end the ongoing colonialism and genocide.

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 week ago

Yeah, so give Palestinians right of return.

That would require expelling a huge number of Israelis, given they literally live in stolen houses. One in every ten Israelis lives in illegal West Bank settlements

Make Israelis pay reparations.

That would require defeating Israel in a war.

Like how is the land I’m living on not functionally stolen?

It is, but at least you didn't literally steal your literal house from a person who is still alive today..

The Jewish children who were born there aren’t colonists

And the Israeli colonists currently driving people out of their houses to take them over and have children there know that you think this, which is why they're stealing land in such a way as to make a Palestine state impossible without kicking them out.

The main imperative is to end the ongoing colonialism and genocide.

Which is impossible while the illegal settlements remain.

Its really not ridiculous. Imagine if the west still kept all its african colonies that were captured during WW2 times. Thats what Israel is, only that it is even younger. Basically all of its jewish population is either first or second generation immigrants/settlers.

[–] Jakeroxs@sh.itjust.works -5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think you're misunderstanding their point, it's very different from African colonies because the entirety of their country isn't made up of children of refugees.

Their point is a fair one that you didn't address at all, are you really expecting them all to move somewhere else? How is that at all feasible in your mind? I'm American, I have no fucking clue where I "came from" if someone said the US needs to broken up and sent back to where they "came from".

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I think the recency of your countries colonization does make a big difference. The US is 250 years old, Israel is 77 years old.

I have no fucking clue where I “came from”

25% of Israelis are fresh settlers that were born elsewhere (so they know where they came from)
Most of the rest have parents that are also settlers

The entire concept of Israel is to be an ever growing colony which spends billions of dollars trying to convince every jewish person in the world that Israel is the only place in the world where they are safe. As a consequence Israels population has grown 900% since its inception and that growth has only been accelerating. The vast majority of Israelis are not refugees, they are religiously attracted. The official plan of the settlers is to colonize the entire region including Lebanon, the West Bank and parts of Syria.

People really need to understand that this crisis is entirely manufactured and intended. The only solution is the dissolution of the Israeli government and a complete change of course. The Israeli population will never do that, because they support the genocide so that only leaves heavy sanctions on Israel or invasion.

Interesting data, and to be clear I'm not advocating for anything Israel is doing

If you wanna understand more about how they get so many young people to move to Israel (especially from the US) i recommend this documentary that talks a lot about Israels "outreach programs" (read ideological/military recruitment programs) that embed themselves into schools and universities to intercept jewish kids before they make any contact with people critical of Israel.

For comparison Israel vs German Age distribution which says a lot by itself

[–] Jakeroxs@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Man how is it that it's always the fucking worst people who get into power.

Edit: Just finished fully, very informative and interesting thanks for sharing!

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

That Israeli age distribution chart is a nightmare in progress and it will come back to haunt them.

[–] Auntievenim@lemmy.world -3 points 1 week ago

go back to Ireland

Sis... do you think Ireland had colonies?

[–] gothiccwaifu@lemm.ee 33 points 1 week ago

That’s some expert-level DARVO right there.

Oh but it's okay when Israel does it? Fucking hypocrites.

[–] Grumpyleb@lemmus.org 24 points 1 week ago

They can all fuck right off. There is so much I'd like to say but I cannot because I will be accused of inciting violence. Funny how Right wing and zionist incitement is allowed on social media, but when anyone left leaning says anything immediate bans. I'm hoping something of biblical proportions happens in Israel. Maybe it will turn into a self fulfilling prophesy, anyway, these are words, I can't encourage anyone other than any gods out there to rain sulfer and all that. I sympathise with the left wing Jews in Israel, but unfortunately, the genocide continues and this is their governement. Much like Maga now is, like it or not, the face of America, well Genocide is now the face of Israel.

[–] MetalMachine@feddit.nl 23 points 1 week ago

"Does israel have a right to exist?"

The answer to this is: did nazi Germany have a right to exist?

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 20 points 1 week ago

Stopping me from doing genocide is literally genocide.

[–] Fishroot@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Israel is basically a rich kid with a dad who bails him out for ramming people with his Ferrari on a main street and still wants people to feel bad about his trauma

[–] Makhno@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Good. Fuck israel. I hope to see it burn.

[–] Lyra_Lycan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 week ago

The irony is this violence is not from you. It spawned from Israel's own actions. And when will they learn that their actions have consequences

[–] sparky@lemmy.federate.cc 6 points 1 week ago

Well not to split hairs, but seeing as they are currently perpetrating Second Holocaust, it would have to be more like Third Holocaust. But the problem with the Israeli comments is that unarmed civilians aren’t very effective at holocausts.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Second holocaust?

Dude, you are committing the second holocaust, so that technically would be the third.

Having said that, aren't you kind of the reason why that would happen in the first place? Israel has had more than enough opportunities to make peace with everyone around it a hundred times over and so far all it has done is investing in making sure that shit got worse, like actually funding Hamas so that they could fight Hamas harder.

You dug your own grave here, I won't push you in it, but I also won't cry for you if you decide to jump in it

[–] jsomae@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

assuming holocaust=genocide, then this is not the second. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_genocides
