For a total of twenty five individuals.

The headline conveniently leaves out.

Who could have seen this coming, what with every time in history when a despot takes power the “intellectuals” flee and/or are purged?

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 6 hours ago

intellectuals are the first ones to be purged before anyone else, hence they flee first.

Sucks but i surely will leave too if Nazis manage to take over our government.

Probably unrealistic to hope otherwise but it also feels defeatist to be like "Nazis will for sure take over".

How'd that Wikipedia rabbit hole go for you? (I told you you'd be back by today 😜)

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 3 points 15 hours ago

Still chasing the white rabbit.

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 5 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

I'm just curious, what do you think that would look like?

[–] lolrightythen@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

I hear folks say they'll move and it makes me wonder what country would want citizens that allowed fascists to take control of their previous country?

[–] lowleekun@ani.social 2 points 7 hours ago

I live in the E.U. so the "schengen agreement" allows me to move anywhere and work anywhere within that space. Italians are still welcome even though they elected a fascist, so if i move fast enough to portugal (or whatever country looks least fascist at that time) won't have a chance but to take me in.

The US accepted top talent from both Italy and Germany during WWII.

Ordinary citizens are going to have a hard time jumping ship, but star researchers will be able to.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 6 hours ago

its a problem for bs/MS stem degree holders, since they arnt scientist and arnt valuable as the phd counterparts.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

where you at that they haven't? asking for a researcher

[–] lowleekun@ani.social 1 points 6 hours ago

Germany. It is close though, so leaving has become a real thought. Our conservatives already repeat the shit the fascists are yapping about in hope of getting some of those sweet voters guided by fear and hate.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago

I'm out. College educated, 10 years in industry, ND a successful side career as a performer. Fuck this shit.
