Democratic party leaders Thursday morning said its officers should not take sides in primaries

Guess they're trying to compete with the GOP on hypocrisy.

If these incumbents were actually effective, they should be able to win a primary challenge. It might even make them better, because they would have to explain their positions directly, and that can help them in the general election. Why are they afraid of it?

This guy is gonna fund a bunch of challenges and some of them will lose. I have every confidence that he will back whoever wins the primary, even if his candidate loses. So the party ends up better in the end -- as long as these new candidates are more likely to win the General Election.

Any seat that doesn't have a primary challenger is a mistake. Incumbent should have to justify their continuing role to their own party, not just an opposing party, just like a new comer has to justify why they would be better. Maybe stability is better, maybe the incumbent is doing a great job and should continue to do so, maybe new blood with perspectives are needed, maybe more drive and passion is a priority. You know who should get to decide those things? The party voters, not the establishment.

Goddam that guy is a natural force.

I remember telling my wife after the Parkland high school shooting, that he might actually be able to hurt NRA, and that I hoped he'd go into politics after his education.
He is insanely sharp, and back then he had zero tolerance for bullshit, and he was incredible at calling it out.

I wish him all the luck. In these dire times, he is among the ones that could finally turn things around for the better in USA.
Any Democrat living in the past, should take notice.

democrats in a nutshell: get nothing done, but complain when someone suggest we get someone in the job who will get something done. of course too many of them are bought and paid for just like the entire GOP, but still hilarious that they think they're going to push back against criticism after losing to a fucking blatant con man fascist.

it’s not about being out with the old and in with the new. It’s about being out with the ineffective and in with the effective.”

fuckin. a.

… after losing to a blatant con man fascist

… AGAIN! That’s the really sad part. They lost a second time and still don’t get it. They’re probably going to take either the House or Senate in the midterms, but they’ll refuse to understand that it’s only because they’re running against Evil. If the don’t win anything in the midterms they’ll have deserved the L.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 2 points 12 hours ago

The problem is that they won't be taking any Ls. They'll fuck everything up and stick you with the tab.

Democrats have been extremely good at being ineffective, and not at all getting what's going on.
How the fuck did they manage to lose to Trump? TWICE!!

Makes you wonder if it's intentional. Older redditors might remember when Ellen Pao came in as CEO and then made a bunch of unpopular changes that everyone hated. She then fell on the sword and Huffman came back in as "the hero" to take over as she left with her golden parachute and all the unpopular changes remained. People realized this was the plan the whole time, and her role was to be the scapegoat for the garbage that the leadership wanted implemented, but they were all working together the whole time.

We've been seeing the same with the DNC and RNC for nearly two decades now. Republicans get in and destroy a bunch of shit but also cut taxes for the wealthy. The Democrats then defeat them and get to act like the good guys while not fixing any of the mess but giving a lot of lip service about how unfair things are for the common person. Once things like the tax cuts are set to expire, they allow the Republicans to win again so they can extend them and the cycle repeats.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Ellen Pao was OK, she just wanted to prevent hate speech, the campaign against her was completely uncalled for. I don't think it was planned for her to fail.
The result was that the reddit clone "Voat" was created as a non censored alternative, and of course that was toxic as hell.

Essentially what Pao did was to keep reddit within the law and being responsible. And prevent moronic subs like one that was based on illegal revenge-porn!!
By far the most Lemmy instances are run by similar standards to what Pao wanted. Pao was demonized for no reason.

Pao was essentially the antithesis to what X is to Twitter.

[–] CmdrShepard42@lemm.ee 7 points 18 hours ago

This is a whitewashing of the events and makes no mention of them deleting any comments critical of her, firing well liked employees like Victoria who ran AMAs, banning many subs for "hate speech" while keeping places like The_Donald at the top of reddit search results and untouched even though these users continuously spread hate speech and brigaded the rest of the site. Most of the subs went dark in protest of her actions and it wasn't because a bunch of incels got banned. Voat being a site full of Nazis is entirely inconsequential because Nazis love nothing more than luring in and indoctrinating 'outcasts' and do the same on every other site too.

The Dems could fuck up a cup of coffee at this point.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 6 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

There are good forces like Bernie, AOC, Omar, and apparently also David Hogg. If I was American, I would absolutely try to support that movement within the democratic party.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 3 points 12 hours ago

Bernie is technically independent, not a democrat.
