Marilu Mendez said when ICE vehicles began following her and her husband Monday and then surrounded their car on Tallman Street in New Bedford, she took out her cell phone and started recording.

Her video shows a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforement agent using a large hammer to break the back passenger window of their car.

Marilu said the agents were focused on her husband, Juan, but kept calling him “Antonio”, the name of another man who lives in their building.

Juan Mendez is now being held in a detention facility in Dover, New Hampshire, with a hearing scheduled for May 7.

2a bros...? When you gonna defend us from the gubmint tyranny?

[–] piecat@lemmy.world 10 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Everyone is looking around at everyone else to do something.

Be the change you want to see.

[–] Bongo_Stryker@lemmy.ca 5 points 9 hours ago

Yeah you're right. I suppose it's foolish to expect the guys who said they were preparing for government tyranny to do anything when the government starts tyrannizing.

[–] 13igTyme@lemmy.world 7 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

They are going after brown people. Most Second amendment people are either white racists or other brown people who are trying to pull up the ladder and happy they are going after "bad" brown people.

[–] skuzz@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 12 hours ago

Most Second amendment people are either white racists

They're also often larpers that like buying toys and playing pretend. True action is foreign to them.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 hours ago

Also they are going after mostly undocumented, who wouldn't be legally allowed to own a gun.

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 10 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Wait, he’s getting a hearing? We’re still doing that?

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 10 hours ago

I wouldn't bet on it being anything fair.

[–] boughtmysoul@lemmy.world 24 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Isn’t this exactly the thing that the 500 million guns in the US was supposed to stop?

Anyone from 101st Keyboard Militia wanna chime in?

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

There really isn't a good option there. Someone with a gun goes to protect these people in the car. Ice calls in back up/police or just guns down the shooter, label a terrorist, double down on their claims these people were in fact threats and get the insurrection act passed on Sunday do to media outlets using fear mongering against people who want the constitution upheld.

A single person or a group of 5 even with guns can't do anything to help singular people against an army. Also the right has pushed for years, "they don't care about you so why should you care about them". Many conservatives have been divided intentionally. Taught to not help anyone but themselves, or maybe their family, but they will choose themselves over family most times.

Those 1-5 people would have more of an effect not fighting the random ice officer on the street but doing other things, most of which require coordination and cooperation without any means of large scale communication.

[–] boughtmysoul@lemmy.world 9 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

So, in other words, these 500 million civilian owned guns are completely useless in actually doing what the 2A claims that they are for?

Yarp. The 2A calls for the right to form a militia. If one tried to do so right now I very much believe they would be labeled a terrorist organization and the executive branch would ignore the courts ruling it was their right. Might even be the U.S. born populous that he's asking El Salvador to open more cells for

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

These people aren't organized. There's no plan or leadership. Sadly, they're not going to get off their recliner until things effect them personally. Right now, most 2A types unfortunately don't care that brown people are being trampled. Most of them don't even know anything is happening at all. When things get bad enough (for them personally), they'll take action. The question is, will it be too late by then?

[–] boughtmysoul@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

So it’s just a bunch of individuals with guns instead of a “well-regulated militia”?

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 7 hours ago

Pretty much, yeah. I'm sure there are some groups out there LARP'ing as soldiers but I'm not counting on them to actually do anything. I would love to be proven wrong but my expectations are currently pretty low.

[–] PunkRockSportsFan@fanaticus.social 28 points 16 hours ago (3 children)

When the first ICE terrorist inevitably catches a bullet, what happens next?

[–] zqps@sh.itjust.works 12 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Terrorism charges, and even more privileges and equipment and less oversight for these thugs.

It would need to happen at scale.

[–] PunkRockSportsFan@fanaticus.social 8 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

So the plan is to corner the public illegally and entrap them on terror charges for trying to live. Got it.

Ever seen a movie called V for Vendetta?

[–] Ceruleum@lemmy.wtf 8 points 15 hours ago

Rinse and repeat!

[–] Eddbopkins@lemmy.world 23 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (1 children)

all i see are terrorist braking property that's not theirs to kidnap innocent people. they are creating terror in me and many other Americans. therefor ICE are terrorists by my definition.

[–] 0x0@lemmy.zip 5 points 11 hours ago

ICE... ISIS... is all the same to me...

[–] OpenPassageways@lemmy.zip 15 points 17 hours ago

Look at this guy, these thugs are living their best life now that they have a blank check to terrorize people without due process.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 14 points 1 day ago

wanna bet they arnt all LEO.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 75 points 1 day ago (1 children)

At least this one wasn't masked so he can be publicly ostracized for his willful participation in a fascist regime.

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 42 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Why do they need that big ass hammer lol you can do that with a spark plug

[–] KMAMURI@lemmy.world 34 points 1 day ago

Because this is a Goon. They don't think. They act. They act most efficiently when it involves hurting someone else. Do not go easily. Fight the gestapo.

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 51 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My guess would be to intimidate and invoke terror.

[–] Glitterbomb@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago

I just see advertised swings and a reason to get in close with a knife

[–] ipkpjersi@lemmy.ml 19 points 1 day ago

Probably to scare people or to feel cool.
