I can see why you want to distract form the dumpster fire that is the cyber truck and tariffs right now, but come on. Biden is old news. The next bit is from yesterday's try.

Right now, it goes like this:

  • Republicans and/or Trump do something fucking crazy that’s not only never been done before, but probably illegal.
  • Everyone shouts frantically, “WhY areN’T tHe DeMS doINg ANyThiNG!” while saying in a rational, quiet, tone, “That’s just how Republicans are.”
  • Repeat

it's not really "distracting" to take a step back and examine how we got here.

unless of course you'd rather not learn from mistakes

Wow, I'm keeping this one in my vault of funny. Yes, let's look at the guy who isn't president right now to see why in a month from taking over, the current president is doing an inside coup.

[–] AppleTea@lemmy.zip 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Looking at the context of trump getting into office is part of how we address this. It's still fairly likely that there's gonna be an election in 2028 -- going in with an understanding of what went wrong in 2024 only benefits us.

This attitude that we can only talk about immediate day to day events, that talking about strategy and constructively criticizing where Democrats fall short in responding to the Republicans -- that only hurts us, dooms us to the same mistakes we've already made. It helps Trump and his cronies.

So you agree with me about the inside coup part, cool. I'm glad we are making headway on that part. How about we focus on putting out the fire of the inside coup part before we look forward to 4 years in the future? When someone takes over and dismantles your entire democracy, that's usually a priority.

Alright then. I'd like to see democrats be as obstinate to trump's policies as we've seen Republicans be when Dems are in office. If democrats are serious about this, they need to pull support and funding from party members who can't toe the line, like Senator Fetterman who broke with the party to pass the Republican's budget.

No. Everyone should be accountable not just who you don't like. Everyone.

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works -1 points 1 day ago

We got trump because people ignored history, and your suggestion is that we ignore more history?

[–] timewarp@lemmy.world -2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

First, the book isn't even out yet so no it isn't old news. It is supposed to be released in May. Now in terms of distracting, what am I distracting you from? Do you intend to just scream "Trump bad" for 4 years then when elections come around make that your campaign? How about figuring out why you lost in 2016 & 2024.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works -2 points 3 days ago (2 children)

How are the tariffs working out right now? You feeling good about your guy?

[–] leftytighty@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 days ago

Imagine being a rabid Democrat. All my reasonable homies hold their nose while voting blue

[–] timewarp@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Lol, Trump isn't my guy. I voted third party. The more you talk though the more I'm inclined to believe you're part of the pro-genocide crowd that helped Trump get elected. If you're concerned about my financial situation though no need to worry. I'm still doing fine. House prices have actually dropped a little which is good for me since I'm looking to buy.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Oh yes, the third party I've heard so much about that was going to save us. How's that going?

I'm glad that you're seeing the economy crash as we head into a recession as a great thing for you. You're not worried about the genocide or trump taking over Gaza and making it a resort? You obviously care deeply about the genocide. This is my last comment to you, have a great day picking out a home.

ETA: In case he changes it.

Why would I change it? What did I say that bothers you so much?

[–] Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago

You failed to agree completely with their vitriolic hatred.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 16 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I'd rather have Biden in the White House right now.

He did a damn good job fixing things Trump broke.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

100%. I'm team Biden. Was he perfect? Hell no. Did he do 100x better than I thought he would? Hell yeah.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He did a million times better than what's happening now.

[–] diskmaster23@lemmy.one 3 points 2 days ago

That's what people were saying about Harris, but no, people decided this (looks around ) was better.

[–] tonytins@pawb.social 16 points 3 days ago (2 children)

He made the right decision to drop out and let someone younger take the mantle. Can't say the same for Republicans.

[–] AppleTea@lemmy.zip 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

except he didn't. it only happened because the party pressured him to after an abysmal debate performance in August. If he really wanted that, he would have said as much at the beginning of the year rather than campaign.

[–] tonytins@pawb.social 2 points 3 days ago

At least they owned up to their mistake. Republicans don't fucking care.

I'd take Biden with senility over Trump with Musk. I'd take Nixon.

[–] timewarp@lemmy.world -4 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Except you can't cause he helped Trump get elected.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

He did? Did he forget to teach Americans how first past the post voting works?

[–] Majorllama@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

The whole "he didn't really sign all those executive orders" thing is also a really bad look. Especially when you consider that his resignation from the 2024 presidential run signature looked different from all the signatures on his many pardons and executive orders that he allegedly rushed out in the final days of his presidency.

Combine that with the interviews where people ask him why he signed executive orders for things and he responded with "I never signed anything like that".

It really really looks like the Democrats were playing weekend at Bidens for at least the final months of his presidency, but probably longer.

Edit: added a word I had somehow missed.

Cool to bring in an un authorized source of knowledge! Fox News was first then Newsmax was interesting….

[–] Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Weekend at Biden's. That's awesome!

[–] TommySoda@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

This guy is old news and we can't change the past. I'm more focused on what I can do now. If we keep playing the blame game the only thing we'll accomplish is getting pissed off at each other instead of what really matters.

I can blame my dad or my red county for getting him elected, or I can use my time to try and protect the people in my life that I actually care about. I don't give a shit about petty revenge for every small thing that led up to this, I care about my little sister's existence being considered illegal because she lives in a red state. Do I hate my dad? Absolutely. Will hating him accomplish anything meaningful? Probably not in the long run.
