For anyone wondering how and not wanting to read the article:

The Senate typically speeds up the confirmation of many nominees through “unanimous consent,” a process that bypasses a formal vote if no senator objects. By objecting, Schatz’s hold would halt the Senate’s ability to move nominees quickly, requiring Senate Majority Leader John Thune to use precious floor time to advance the president’s picks through the confirmation process.

So that definitely has some significant limits.

A better plan of attack would be to make Musk's business life a living hell by finding a way to tighten FAA safety regulations and then fine and revoke their licenses when they inevitably fail to meet the new requirements. It would tie him up in courts for a good long time, but that's a pipe dream because the Demecrats are too chicken shit to do anything that would actually help fight this. Also they don't have the numbers so puff puff pass.

it would be, but they are the minority party in the federal legislature. They can't do the things you're suggesting on their own. Obstructionism is the best course of action. You're asking for things they literally can't do, instead of things they choose not to like normal.

FAA is run by the executive branch. They are subject to laws that have to pass the republican legislature. Not a reasonable option at this point unless republicans start to turn on musk.

Those who could craft or enforce laws against musk right now are the states. If a state could charge musk with a crime and arrest him for it it could stick. The presidential pardon only extends to federal crimes.

So, states need to grind every business of his to a halt by revoking all low level approvals for anything, pending review that may never actually happen (or requires scheduling with an extremely understaffed review board thats booked solid for the next several years?)

And Trump will just put them in those positions anyway.

But go for it.

[–] funkforager@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The tactic on trumps side was to delay and delay and delay so why wouldn’t it make sense to use that same tactic for the same stacking effect?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

The "tactic" on Trump's side is to not give a shit about the law.
