This is from a few years ago, but I just stumbled upon it. It was a very fascinating read on the development of Pokémon and their different types. The changes that happen during a game’s development are really interesting.

The entire concept of starter Pokémon was a very late idea which went through several iterations before arriving at the concept we know from the final games.

It always amazes me when these kinds of iconic tropes are developed as an afterthought.

The fact that a concept that now seems so integral to the series, being conceived of towards the end boggles the mind. Kind of how Golden Eye multiplayer was one of the last random ideas to go into the game.
