ah, so, apparently, fascism is caused by decades of sexual oppression, denial, and self-hatred erupting and being directed outward at others.

this would be far more interesting if it didn't also mean the downfall of democracy.

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 59 points 3 months ago (3 children)

I just listened to a Behind the Bastards episode where basically....yeah, that's been the prevailing theory.

[–] DoctorButts@kbin.melroy.org 44 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Nazis should literally go fuck themselves

[–] Know_not_Scotty_does@lemmy.world 24 points 3 months ago

Yep, no one else will.

[–] finley@lemm.ee 23 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Obviously, I’m both being sarcastic and massively oversimplifying things. This is just one tiny splinter of the cause of fascism, not the entirety of it.

[–] Nicoleism101@lemm.ee 2 points 3 months ago

It’s all about sex, Freud was right. Even if not the homosexuality then about immigrants taking ‘our women’. It’s all because we have monkey brains

[–] PrincessLeiasCat@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Can you remember which episode? Sounds interesting but I can’t remember if I’ve heard it yet :)

[–] rimu@piefed.social 26 points 3 months ago (2 children)

That's a part of it for sure but there's a lot more going on also:

how fascism works

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Wait hold on

Why would cucks bother them? Isn't that like a conservative thing?

Am I seriously missing something here?

[–] rimu@piefed.social 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)
[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Honestly, I'm even more confused now. White supremacists were using it against "RINOs"

The original insult makes sense in that context (man who's spouse is unfaithful), but in this diagram it was listed with oppression of identity and sexuality. The only way my brain seems to interpret that is by assuming the word is used in its fetish form which makes even less sense to me

[–] rimu@piefed.social 7 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

In the diagram you can substitute that word for any non-mainstream sexual or gender thing. It really doesn't matter what - they'll scapegoat anything as long as it's a minority, elicits disgust from the in-crowd and reinforces any of the things it connects to with dashed lines.

Pedophilia is a good one because it relates to 'defending women & children', makes the enemy look weak, causes sexual anxiety and elicits [disgust](https://www.ecosia.org/search?q=conservatives disgust morality&addon=firefox&addonversion=4.1.2&method=topbar). Hence '[Save the children](https://duckduckgo.com/?q=qanon %27save the children%27&t=h_&ia=web)' and all that.

The diagram maps the *conceptual* framework behind it all - it's best not to get too literal about any of the individual words.

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Ok. That makes a whole lot more sense

[–] lol_idk@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 months ago

Let's talk about the hotwife instead of the cuck

[–] HeartyOfGlass@lemm.ee 7 points 3 months ago

Genuinely wonder if there's some correlation in there. It'd be fascinating if global acceptance of homosexuality would eliminate fascist tendencies. I'd watch that movie.

[–] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 months ago

And coke and meth.

Mostly meth. Have you seen these people?

[–] Nobody@lemmy.world 50 points 3 months ago (6 children)

I’ll never understand it. Just put on sunglasses and a hat and go check out Pride once. Watch gay people be out and proud and happy and accepting.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 27 points 3 months ago (2 children)

"But I'm not gay! I'm straight! ... I just sometimes like sucking cock is all. That's not gay!"

Literally what most people on Grindr are like in my area.

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 17 points 3 months ago

Literally what most people on Grindr are like in my area.

We're thankful for your research.

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago

You’d think that being bi would fix this but they might actually hate being bi more.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

If you're a Republican politician and you admit you're queer, that huge, reliable network of evangelicals you built up will drop you.

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 6 points 3 months ago

Not THAT hat

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

"But I'm not gay! I'm straight! ... I just sometimes like sucking cock is all. That's not gay!"

[–] RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 3 months ago

You cannot do that if being closeted and shamed is your kink.

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago

What if they have? I think it’s more about how deep their belief is that they must be accepted by their community. So them going to pride might actually make them mad and fuel their hate.

“Why do these people get to be accepted by their peers and I’m not, well let me fix that”

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 48 points 3 months ago (1 children)
[–] ALoafOfBread@lemmy.ml 30 points 3 months ago (1 children)

"I convinced myself I was gay when I was a kid".

Well congrats, bud: you also convinced me you were gay when you were an adult.

[–] VubDapple@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Ya know, that kinda better explains the Theil connection. They have that in common?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I've speculated (and I don't believe I'm alone) that the reason Peter Theil was so supportive of Elon Musk is that he either really wanted to fuck him or did.

[–] frezik@midwest.social 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Nah, they're just people who made a pile of money together. Theil was one of the people who stopped Elon from trying to turn PayPal into a complete financial services solution, and instead just focus on paying for eBay purchases. They all take a big payday because of it, but Elon was still upset he wasn't allowed to "disrupt" the banking industry.

[–] Zerlyna@lemmy.world 30 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Love this!!! Perhaps I should post this in conservative Reddit. 🧐

It’s there 8 hours now, no bites. But no ban. Hopefully it get gathered by the search bots.

[–] AlolanYoda@mander.xyz 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Upvote this so this is the first Google result for "republican national convention"

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

yes only bots are allowed on reddit

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago (2 children)

So you're saying program a bot network to keep posting this article on r/conservative?

[–] Chewget@lemm.ee 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Don't limit yourself to just this article. There's a whole fact based world out there that doesn't confirm their beliefs

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Agreed, but if I knew anything about programming botnets, I would absolutely program bots to just one by one post this specific thread for weeks. Just get banned and post again a couple of hours later with a new bot.

Good luck doing anything about it with the API being free so you can use mod tools.

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago

not really but you took it to an interesting direction

[–] rsuri@lemmy.world 20 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Peter Thiel, one of the top GOP funders (and likely reason for JD Vance pick) is openly gay. Of course for him the reasoning is simple: he has a lot of money and wants policies that favor people with a lot of money. I've known a number of rich people in my life, and many (not all) have bought into a sort of wealthy identity, thinking of wealthy people as superior to non-wealthy people, and that the ideal social structure is a rigid hierarchy where the "deserving" are rewarded with luxuries and the "inferior" working class deserves a life of cheap labor. Psychological incentives strongly encourage this, because otherwise these people would have to believe they are getting more than they deserve, and that they themselves are too weakened by a life of luxury to be as supportive of the as fortunate than they should be. Accordingly, this identity can be more powerful than something like gay identity.

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 19 points 3 months ago

Very interesting.

[–] SaltySalamander@fedia.io 12 points 3 months ago

It always does.

[–] Hello_there@fedia.io 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Lindsey Graham has had rumors floating

[–] Alph4d0g@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 3 months ago

He might be angling to be the next one fingered by Donald Trump
