Because meaningful labor is fulfilling. I'm not in this community because I hate work, I'm here because I hate exploitation and despise the meaningless bullshit tasks that are attendant upon so much of the way we currently handle employment.
Work Reform
A place to discuss positive changes that can make work more equitable, and to vent about current practices. We are NOT against work; we just want the fruits of our labor to be recognized better.
Our Philosophies:
- All workers must be paid a living wage for their labor.
- Income inequality is the main cause of lower living standards.
- Workers must join together and fight back for what is rightfully theirs.
- We must not be divided and conquered. Workers gain the most when they focus on unifying issues.
Our Goals
- Higher wages for underpaid workers.
- Better worker representation, including but not limited to unions.
- Better and fewer working hours.
- Stimulating a massive wave of worker organizing in the United States and beyond.
- Organizing and supporting political causes and campaigns that put workers first.
Agreed.
Far too often we're forced to work for the sake of working. Instead of doing work to accomplish a task.
If I'm salary it shouldn't matter that I complete ALL my tasks in only 20 hours in a week. That should earn me the right to take the rest of the week off and enjoy myself. Not punish me with additional work (even things outside my job description) because of some obscure "40 hours minimum with no overtime" they set. (Old jobs ptsd)
Back to the point of this comic. It's good for us to have meaningful activities. Either a fulfilling way to earn our income or even a craft/hobby to spend our time on.
I'm grateful to have a job that values my time and I find meaningful. If I could earn my full wage and go under 40 hours I would call it a dream job.
