I think a lot of this would change if games didn’t have so much loading and setup. You get the opening logos, loading, then main menu, then continue at the checkpoint you were at, then recontextualize where you were, then finally get to some fun task. That can feel fatiguing to do all that setup.

A lot of this changes through console “sleep modes” that keep a game in memory for multiple days.

Getting rid of those intro logos and stuff is one of the first things I look up how to do when installing a new PC game. I do love the PS5 sleep where I can literally just keep the game running and instantly go back to where I left it as if I had the console "on" the whole time; but it's only good if I'm wanting to play that same game and not jump to something else.

I feel like keeping the console in rest mode for prolonged periods of time may be damaging to the console and consume too much power. Do you know anything about that? And for how long would you do that overall?

I just remember back when the solution for suspending a run in Returnal was to set your console to rest mode which is just completely asinine to me. Thankfully, they came to their senses and added run suspension to the game - closing the game doesn't kill your run anymore.

Afaik the only thing you really need to worry about is the possibility of save corruption if the power supply is interrupted during sleep mode (IE your house loses power or you unplug the console).
