Happy unification day to the bromanians π₯³
(sighs, takes chain whip and cross-shaped boomerang out of his closet)
Whatβs a delicious Romanian dish thatβs easy to make at home?
I would say polenta (mΔmΔligΔ in Romanian) is the easiest to prepare - https://www.chefspencil.com/traditional-romanian-polenta-mamaliga/
It's not a meal by itself, but it's delicious with telemea cheese (you won't find any outside of Romania, can probably be substituted by feta cheese best), sour cream and a fried egg on top. Add a smoked sausage and you got a feast :)
How is it typically celebrated?
Well, the national day of Romania is about the unification of all three romanian inhabitated regions, Transylvania, Vallachia and Moldavia in Greather Romania.
Usually the day starts with a millitary parade, and people gather arround in Alba Iulia (the unification town) or Bucharest (the capital) to watch the parade and gather togeder to celebrate the national unification day. After that you could think of some sort of thematical unification park, like the Christmas parks around the world, where people strawl arround, enjoy the specific cuisine and celebrate the romanian culture, with songs, various reenactions, and some concerts.
LE: also the day is a national celebration day, where most of the people have a day off to rest and to be around their families.
It's a public holiday and everyone spends it in their own way. People go to picnics, visit family or just chill at home. There's parades as well in most bigger cities.
Who the hell goes to picnics in december?!?
Well, you are right, no one goes to picnics in december, but people in Romania visit their family and they celebrate the reunification day togeder.
Depends if the weather is decent or not, but grilling stuff and spending time with family in nature is common where I'm from.
