There’s so many models and companies these days and hard to know what’s quality and refills won’t cost an arm and a leg, or what long term will last at least half a decade. Previously went with Inkjet printers, but I’m done with them since I rarely print photos. TIA for any recommendations and thoughts on your experiences on this!

Brother Printer RHLL2320D Compact Laser Printer with Duplex Printing (Renewed) https://a.co/d/cw90xah

This thing is as reliable as you can get with reloadable parts that you can get from 3rd party vendors.

Every additional bell and whistle is an additional potential point of failure, so this thing is pretty lightweight and lacks any frills.

Brother printers are easily within 100-200.

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1802557-REG/brother_hl_l2400d_compact_monochrme_laser.html, for example.

Are you even looking at them?

Seconded, that beast (well, one of its predecessors) got me through college on the included toner cartridge alone and it's still kicking

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago

Seconded. I have one of the compact Brother laser printers and it works nicely

Brother laser, they're workhorses and toner lasts ages. Can also buy off brand toners.

I have a Brother HLL2390DW, using it for the past 4/5 yrs. Currently listed on Amazon for $199.69. They also have a renewed model for $149.99

Not HP. I wouldn't accept an HP printer unless you paid me more than $20 and didn't force me to use it.

If you wanted me to use it, I'd charge you no less than $200 per month.

Fuck HP with a rusty Buick.

Rough but I get where you’re headed, had nothing but experiences with them in the past.

[–] QuarterSwede@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

Brother is the way.

I have a Brother MFCL2750DW Monochrome All-in-One Wireless Laser Printer at work and love it. I got a second one for the house too, I wish I had gotten one of them in color though. The last time I purchased toner was in 2021. I do not do a lot of printing.

[–] TheGoldenGod@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Agreed. It’s a great printer, but usually runs around $299, so it’s $100 out of their price range.

[–] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

When i purchased mine it was under $200. My first one was $189.99, the second one 3 months later was $199.99. i did not look at current prices, only my orders.

[–] TheGoldenGod@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

Damn. Another reminder prices are ridiculous these days... 😣

[–] WYLD_STALLYNS@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

Looks exactly like what I’m looking for but tad more than I can afford at the moment. 😣 Any models more in my budget?

[–] CoffeeJunkie@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

There are so many out in the wild, I bet you could pick up a used Brother laser printer off FB Marketplace. As many others have said...any one will do. I also have one, they're great.

[–] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 months ago

There is a refurbished on Amazon for $240 ATM. The Brother HL-L2460DW is $160 at Staples. The Brother HL-L2405W is $120, seems the cheaper does not have duplex (guessing that is the ability to print both sides of the paper). Brother DCP-L2640DW is $200, unsure what the difference between that and mine is.

[–] GGNZ@lemmy.nz 14 points 3 months ago

Any Brother Laser printer really.

Just get a Brother. Any of them are fine.

[–] lemming741@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Brother, obviously.

If you think you will ever use the scanner, get one that can scan to FTP. They are ~$30 more, but usually come with a document feeder too.

Then look into paperless-ngx

[–] Cobrachicken@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

plus duplex scan

[–] tyler@programming.dev 6 points 3 months ago

Like everyone says. Brother. But just buy it used. You don’t need a new one. People are recommending them for a reason. They last.

[–] bblkargonaut@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

If you live near a college, check their surplus or recycling. I got a brother printer for the low price of fixing a paper jam.

[–] TankieTanuki@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago

Sorry, I don't have 100 recommendations.

[–] Extrasvhx9he@lemmy.today 2 points 3 months ago

Can only share my thoughts on the matter. Got myself a brother HL-L2320D a couple of years back and I'm not unhappy with it but I would avoid it if I could time travel. Really wish it had a dedicated Ethernet port and a scanner and I urge you to look for those features, especially since scanning apps are going the subscription route nowadays. My use case is probably different from yours but I didn't print in color at all in the past idk 5 years now so you might save money on getting a monochrome one but really its up to you for that part.

100 to 200 what? Bananas?
