There's been an influx of content surrounding lemmy here. Some of it is open ended:

  • "What kinds of things from reddit would you like to see Lemmy avoid as the user base grows?"
  • "Lemmy, what do you call users of Lemmy?"

And these are a-ok! There's also been a lot of questions like

  • "How do I block a user?"
  • "How do I join a community on a different instance"

These aren't open ended (at least, relatively). They are objective based, and just need a resolution, rather than discussion. These sort of questions are more relevant to !lemmy_support@lemmy.ml.

I know there's also questions like "What are you guys doing when there’s multiple communities for the same thing across instances?". I'm inclined to let those stay, there is lots of opportunity for discussion. It's a game of discretion from a moderation perspective, but I assume most can easily guess what is cold hard support.

At least from me, moderation of support posts has been sporadic at best, despite the long standing rule. I will begin redirecting these questions to !lemmy_support@lemmy.ml, however I'm of course willing to listen to the community here if that's not what is wanted, as well as other feedback.

edit: support posts will now be removed, not locked

Are there any communities that focus more on the privacy side of using crypto?

The invidious link bot was great and well-received.

Google are blocking invidious pretty effectively now, but they can't block ghostarchive because it's not on their server

What software do you know that uses mythological names for its release (version) codenames?

You know how sometimes in a show or a movie there is a character that has a "radio friend" that they talk to? Yeah that's what I want to do.

But I do not know how to so I came to ask you! Cheap, preferably.

Out of curiosity, I found this app on IzzyOnDroid, (which gave me the idea in the first place) Codec2Talkie that seems to be what I'm looking for but I'm unsure due to my ignorance.

A radio modem seems to be required as the app description dictates. I can find one somewhere no issue. But is this the correct approach? Is there a better way that I don't know of?

Hey, something like 10 dogs walk past my home every day and I swear something like 6 of 10 are Bernedoodles. Unscientific, I know but my sister got one too. So, it seems too frequent to be a coincidence.

Does anyone here know why this breed is so popular in the last few years?

My guess: since I live in a conservative place (in the USA) someone famous got one, or said they're great dogs for "patriots" to own. (/smh)

But thanks for any ideas. I searched around but all I got were those BS filled, "What you should know about the Bernedoodle" pages, saying dumb stuff like, "Bernedoodles have quickly gained popularity due to their cuddly nature and lovable personalities". I bet there's something else going on here.

Are you a fan of one or the other?

I did not put others down such as Papa Johns as I think these two are the 2 most popular of all pizza chains.

Personally from past experience, Domino's is more expensive than Pizza Hut but does offer some alright deals every now and then.

Pizza Hut includes in some places a free salad bar to have at your hearts content before the main Pizza dish and refillable drinks on the side. ( I don't know if Domino's has this as we only used to have it delivered)

I feel you get more options with Pizza Hut and some of the crusts aren't bad compared to it's rival.

Plus, I prefer thr logo and older Pizza Hut building designs compared to Domino's.

What are your thoughts, fellow pizza enjoyers?

Are you a Domino's Demon or a Pizza Hut "The Hutt"?

My dad uses Google Maps, and he mentioned that it seems to be getting worse. Like, giving him directions that are obviously worse than alternatives. Has anyone else here experienced this?

Hey everyone!

I’m looking for some casual games to play while I’m on a call with a friend. I want something super chill that doesn’t require too much focus or brainpower. I’ve tried Shapez.io, but it felt a bit too complex for what I’m looking for. Minecraft vanilla survival is also a no-go since it demands a bit more attention than I want to give right now.

Any recommendations for games that are easy to pick up and play, where I can just relax and enjoy the conversation without getting too caught up in the gameplay?

Thanks in advance!

There seems to be a common pattern of HR being disliked in firms and workplaces across different industries no matter where you're focused on.

To be honest during my apprenticeship/internship HR weren't too bad and would have a laugh with you, hell one of them loved the dark humor from one of our technicians.

Is there something I'm missing that HR are soul less and will protect the interests of a firm before yourself? I'm not sure as I think not all HR people are terrible, just comes with the territory so to speak

What are your thoughts on the matter?

What do YOU think of them as a department from your current and past experiences?

I did retirement home training and used to think it was a sweet job. Then I got in the business and underestimated how demoralizing it was as they give you the easy elders in training while the others make you, or at least me, really think of the fact the job just amounts to an unkarmic freebie.

What media have art styles that are very hard to learn and reproduce (only modern media, no ancient painters)?

I like seeing a group evolve and form good friendships. I also like sci fi and weirdness. For these reasons, two of my favorite shows are The Expanse and Severance. In both, by the end, I felt like I was “part of the team” in some way.

What are a couple of your favorites? What kind of itch do they scratch?

I just can't put my finger onto it....

Maybe my humor has de-evolved or something

To prevent a recurrence of cancer, my wife's ovaries were removed and it has triggered menopause. We are in our mid 30s. It is a terrible business, with numerous symptoms like pain, discomfort, mood and attitude changes, and the like.

She is seeking treatments by her own idea, but that process has been extremely slow. In the mean time, all affection for me has completely evaporated and been replaced with anger, resentment, distance, and disrespect.

I know that she has no choice in what is happening to her, I know it is not her fault, I know she is barely able to control it, and I don't blame her for any of it. And yet, this new person living with me refuses to interact with me at all unless it's to chastise me for some perceived slight or criticize me for voicing my opinion.

I tried to express that I was feeling undesired and attacked but understood my plight was in no way similar to hers (nor as intense, serious, difficult, or important). I didn't want her to apologize because it wasn't her fault; I only wanted her to recognize that I was having feelings about what was going on.

She told me I had no right to those feelings, reminded me that what was happening was happening to her, and I should never bring it up again if I care about her at all.

So I'm seriously asking: What's the trick here? Do I just wait it out? Am I even allowed to have these feelings? Or should I just shut my big, dumb, stupid mouth? I legitimately want to know how to navigate this because I seem to only be making mistakes.

I saw a post recently about someone setting up parental controls -- screentime, blocked sites, etc. -- and it made me wonder.

In my childhood, my free time was very flexible. Within this low-pressure flexibility I was naturally curious, in all directions -- that meant both watching brainteaser videos, and watching Gmod brainrot. I had little exposure to video games other than Minecraft which ran poorly on my machine, so I tended to surf Flash games and YouTube.

Strikingly, while watching a brainteaser video, tiny me had a thought:

I'm glad my dad doesn't make me watch educational videos like the other kids in school have to.

For some reason, I wanted to remember that to "remember what my thought process was as a child" so that memory has stuck with me.

Onto the meat: if I had had a capped screentime, like a timer I could see, and knew that I was being watched in some way, I'd feel pressure. For example,

10 minutes left. Oh no. I didn't have fun yet. I didn't have fun yet!!

Oh no, I'm gonna get in so much trouble for watching another YTP...

and maybe that pressure wouldn't have made me into an independent, curious kid, to the person I am now. Maybe it would've made me fearful or suspicious instead. I was suspicious once, when one of my parents said "I can see what you browse from the other room" -- so I ran the scientific method to verify if they were. (I wrote "HI MOM" on Paint, and tested if her expression changed.)

So what about now? Were we too free, and now it's our job to tighten the next generation? I said "butthead" often. I loved asdfmovie, but my parents probably wouldn't have. I watched SpingeBill YTPs (at least it's not corporatized YouTube Kids).

Or differently: do we watch our kids without them knowing? Write a keylogger? Or just take router logs? Do we prosecute them like some sort of panopticon, for their own good?

Or do we completely forgo this? Take an Adventure Playground approach?

Of course, I don't expect a one-size-fits-all answer. Where do you stand, and why?
