Nobody reads this far down right? I'll just shill for J-Novel Club a bit because I love that they sell DRM free Ebooks. Go buy the series from their website.

I laughed when I read "What Would Myne Do?" on the rule sidebar of !lightnovels@ani.social, mostly because it brought to mind profiteering and gleeful worker exploitation. (you taught her well, Benno)

More than that though, it also reminded me of a random idea I had never gotten around to sharing. I present to you the Myne is Secretly the Antagonist Challenge. When the mood strikes you, start reading the Bookworm series again from the beginning, but from the perspective that Myne is the antagonist of the story setting. Pay attention to the following themes, whether they are enacted by Myne personally or under her direction:

  • Suppressed yandere inclinations
  • Selfish demands on others
  • Indifference to costs others pay to fulfill her ambitions
  • Workforce exploitation
  • Child labor
  • Corrupt use of political influence
  • Cult of personality indoctrination tactics (edit: okay, not really Myne, but has she put a stop to it?)
  • Usurpation of power
  • War crimes

Don't take this too seriously, it's meant as an exercise in good fun. Most characters need some antagonistic characteristics in order to have good depth to them, and protagonists are no exception.

Most importantly, have fun with this! Share your favorite moments that stick out when you reread or rethink the series from this perspective. Bonus points if you keep a running tally.

[META] Survey Results (self.metadiscussions)
submitted 1 month ago by neshura to c/metadiscussions

I've let the survey run for long enough now I suppose (at least I'm not getting any new responses) so I'm making this post with the "results". If anyone is interested in the raw data I'll post it but for now I'll just focus on the conclusion I've drawn from it.

For the most part responses only varied slightly but most of the questions were only there to help make a decision about the core question: What do you want to happen with this instance now?. The responses to which varied a lot compared to the other questions.

There were some votes against opening up the instance to other series discussions but I myself and the majority of votes are in favor so that's what will happen. However I really dislike seeing empty discussion threads so there will be some rules in place so this doesn't end up like a spam machine. As is with all things in life these are subject to change.

#1: There must be at least 3 users interested in regular discussions for a series to create a community for it here. There should be some regular volume of discussion for the series and 3 core users should facilitate that.

Note: If there already are discussion or fan art posts for a series on the Fediverse feel free to provide some of them to show that the newly created community would not just rot in a corner.

#2: If the series does not have weekly chapters there should be some form of plan for how to structure this so there is regular activity.

There is little sense in using a community only for volume discussions and nothing else those could just as well take place in !lightnovels@ani.social. As such there should at least be some discussion in between volumes (discussions about characters, fan art, whatever really)

Note: If the series does not release on J-Novel Club please be aware that @Mestionora@bookwormstory.social will be unable to automatically create posts for it. In those cases threads need to be manually created every week.

If anyone is interested in a series and thinks they can meet these 2 rules please message me either here or via Matrix (@neshura:neshweb.chat) so we can discuss the details.

Additionally I'll post a list of links to any volume or chapter/part discussion threads to the weekly thread over at !lightnovels@ani.social. It's something I should have done with the PrePub discussions for Ascendance of a Bookworm as well but I didn't think of it until now.

Got this little gem today so might as well share it with you all. I really like how they did her hair, that's some 10/10 work right there imo.

Finally downloaded and processed the last Volume of Bookworm from J-Novel. What a way to end the series.

Rozemyne fell unconscious upon completing her large-scale spell. Now it falls to Ferdinand to bring her back from the brink of death. If she succumbs to her lack of mana, her death will mean the worst for her loved ones and the country at large.

The harspiel concert is just around the corner, and there’s much to be prepared. Programs, songs, a last-minute expansion... Meanwhile, a slight misunderstanding leads to a contest between two smiths, who compete to make the best waxing machine.

Before I get into this I apologize for giving you all a heart attack. Actually no, I know what I am doing with that title, suffer!

Unfortunately the main story of Ascendance of a Bookworm released its last Pre-Pub chapter last week and with it a stop to the very regular weekly discussion threads. Obviously we will have Side Stories to look forward to, however those won't provide nearly the same regularity as the main story did.

Up until now the Pre-Pub threads have been the main driver behind activity on the instance and the closure of the story then opens the question of what will happen to this place going forward. First of all this instance will likely not be disappearing. I have my only active lemmy account on here and since I have 0 real hosting costs I have no problem keeping this going indefinitely, I also think it might be an opportunity to change things up a bit. However first and foremost this is a place for you all, not for me alone, so your opinion about what should or should not happen to this instance weigh a bit more than my own. As such I (with input from ludrol, btw thanks for always being there for me to push decisions onto) have compiled a survey about that topic. Do feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments as well though.

With that out of the way I'd like to express a sincere thanks for all the fun discussions we've had here so far, I genuinely enjoyed every moment of them and look forward to more of them.

Source and explanation:https://old.reddit.com/r/HonzukiNoGekokujou/comments/1epe57c/p5v12_clustering_all_chapters_in_the_main_story/

TL;DR: All chapters are clustered using the lemmatized word frequencies (color). Then, they are then plotted in a way such that chapters with similar word frequency signatures are put closer to each other, and vice versa.

Basically, the plot shows the relationship of the chapters: how close they are to one another. For example, the bottom right mostly involves commoners, no books, no magic. The top left is very different, all chapters there involve nobles, magic, and Myne now has access to books or the library to some extent. The bottom left mostly includes the end of Part 5, the war, the gods, and the Book. It is very different from the commoner time, but also not quite as peaceful as the time in the Royal Academy of top left. The chapters from the same volume aren't necessarily clustered together, either. For example, the Epilogue of P5V12 is a lot more similar to Parts 1 and 2. In fact, the cluster with P5V12 Epilogue mostly contains chapters about one's future or promises.
