The management culture emphasizes a workflow that's heavy on low skill junior devs and cheap foreign labor of highly variable quality. You caaaaan do that well with infinite planning and QA and project management and test-driven design, but the reason you're trying to do it that way to begin with is you're an under qualified yes-man careerist dipshit trying to come in under budget and time, so you won't. And these are the wages of low wages.

You gotta love how aggressively they prevent users from seamlessly running executables from the internet, a VERY legitimate common use case, but a desktop shortcut from the internet? Run away!

Heck, there was even overlap with the internet where you could briefly lookup anyone in any city's white pages listing online for free! People used to sign their Usenet posts with their full name, phone, and mailing address, though. We were really stupid in hindsight, but it was a more innocent time.

I'd wager your DVD rips are same quality, most stuff from the 90's touched by computer anything is 480p at the source. VHS, it would be an improvement probably.

At least it was underground, limiting how many people were in the line of fire, every few years they open fire at someone on a major avenue in Manhattan in a crowd. Good times. I'm so glad the democratic party destroyed Scott Stringer by bribing his ex-gf to falsely accuse him of being a sex pest to ensure the DNC's man, Eric Adams, the biggest shithead to ever come out of the NYPD, could become mayor-king of NYC, guaranteeing Guiliani-level daily police misconduct with impunity.

A number of VPNs have anti-tracking/adblocking features, but idk how well they work -- I refuse to use an OS with OS level ads, so I never see non-browser ads

I would argue all of these things were possible sans "AI" (although it would have been sold as AI in the 90's) via existing heuristics adequately developed if people knew that was the desired application
