More than 20,000 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip in the war between Israel and Hamas, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

Hamas militants led an attack on Israel on Oct. 7 that killed more than 1,200 people, according to Israeli officials. Israel’s response — an all-out bombardment of Gaza and a ground invasion — has killed almost 1 in 100 people in the Strip.

The Gaza Health Ministry said early Friday that 20,057 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes since Oct. 7.

The number of deaths is far higher than in any conflict in Gaza in recent history. And it is higher than the estimated 15,000 Palestinians killed in the violence that followed the 1948 Arab-Israeli war, according to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics. Palestinians call that mass displacement the Nakba, or “the catastrophe.”

Yeah genocides tend to involve some dead people.

The word "war" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. How high does the civilian kill count need to be for MSM to start using "slaughter" or "mass murder" instead?

I fear people don't recognise just how big a number 20,000 is because we're used to talking about population in 100s of thousands or millions.

But imagine everyone you know, freinds, family people you know at work, even the cashier at your local shop you're friendly with. Chances are that list of people is <100. Everyone you know and care about is around 100 people.

Now to get to 1,000 you would need 10x the amount of all the people you know,m people that you know personally, you probably dont have a personal interaction with a 1,000 people in a year ubless you work customer service. Now 20,000 would be well over 20x the amount of people you interact with in a year, or 200x the amount t of people you actually know and care about. Imagine literally everyone you know and love being killed 200 times over and you start to get and idea of how bad this is.

Is everyone still saying more than 1200+ people? It's been already confirmed; 1139 people died and of them 370 (give or take) were security personnel.
