I don't know the specifics behind why the communities were (re-)removed but the reasons given in the modlog seem vague enough to apply to anyone linking to Google or YouTube as they reference or indirectly link to piracy:

Removed Community CrackWatch@lemmy.dbzer0.com
reason: facilitating piracy, referencing websites used for the distribution of copyright infringing material in images

Removed Community Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com
reason: facilitating piracy, indirectly linking to websites used for the distribution of copyright infringing material

From the initial removal announcement post:

The discussions that have happened in various threads on Lemmy make it very clear that removing the communites before we announced our intent to remove them is not the level of transparency the community expects, and that as stewards of this community we need to be extremely transparent before we do this again in the future as well as make sure that we get feedback around what the planned changes are, because lemmy.world is yours as much as it is ours.

EDITED multiple times due to confusion over origins of the ban.

Hi,

"New Music" community, "Create a post" function fails. !newmusic@lemmy.world

I've attempted several times over the last week. I've tested with multiple browsers. All attempts fail and eventually time out.

I've contacted the community moderator, who was unable to recreate the failure. The moderator recommended I post a support request here.

I used the web browser dev tools to obtain the following error messages:

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 400 ()

Request error: error sending request for url (http://pictrs:8080/image/process.webp?src=ed718c22-7b86-472e-a8d0-77e99f424adf.png&thumbnail=96): error trying to connect: dns error: failed to lookup address information: Try again

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 400 ()
{"error":"couldnt_find_post"}

Thank you, Lorin

So i use Memmy app and sometimes access lemmy.world in safari (ios) - in both such cases, I can’t see my past posts from my profile page. I can see the number of posts that i have created but it shows nothing (or blank) when i click on it - it just says no post. However i can see all the comments i made on my posts or others. Now if i post something I can’t go back and see if there’s any upvotes but just hope if someone made any comment on my post and hope again that i could see the comment (this is the 2nd issue). 2nd issue - I randomly can’t see some comments in my posts. I can see the comment in my notification (both in browser and memmy app) - however when i click on it - memmy crashes and in browser i simply just don’t see the comment. First i thought maybe the comments which I don’t see are made from other instances - but that’s not the case - i can see comments made from kbin etc. but the ones I don’t see were all made from lemmy.world but that doesn’t mean i cannot see only comments made from lemmy.world - i can certainly see few from the same. Hopefully this makes sense to someone and can help me with these issues. Please let me know if anyone of you need any further clarification.

Hello! Is there some script to make it automatic? Or maybe some client which allows to make it easy way, I use Connect and it is not great at deleting own comments. Thanks!

I'm like, Oh, so totally confused.

I absolutely LOVE FOSS and all things federated. Like girl, that's my jam.😚

But I'm confused about this tool, though. How do I get it to work?

What exactly does Reddit Lemmy importer do?

I'm cross-posting this to !support@lemmy.world in case Issue #2 below is symptomatic of a sync issue that the admins need to know about.

cross-posted from: https://sh.itjust.works/post/5452780

My main account is on sh.itjust.works, but I am a mod for some communities on lemmy.world.

Issue #1: A few weeks ago I learned that user reports do not federate between instances (Github issue #3781). Therefore I cannot see reports from the .world communities.

Issue #2: As a workaround for #1, I created an account on lemmy.world. From my sh.itjust.works account I made my lemmy.world account a mod in my communities. Unfortunately, it is not taking effect. See the attached image for one example. My lemmy.world account does not know that it is now a moderator account.

Is issue #2 simply a sync issue between the two instances? Or is something else happening?

Is issue #1 expected to be resolved in the near future?

Can't post pictures (lemmy.world)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by TheGiantKorean@lemmy.world to c/support@lemmy.world

I get the error "SyntaxError: JSON.parse: corrected character at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data". I get this error in my browser (Firefox for Android and also Brave) as well as in Lemmy Connect.

Edit: I was about to post a photo on mander.xyz, but not post the same photo on lemmy.world: https://lemmy.world/post/5347862

(1) Give users the ability to mark posts as NSFW after making them. Right now, we can only mark posts as NSFW before posting them afaik.

(2) Limit the amount of space videos take up on the screen. I upload videos to catbox.moe and then post their links in the URL textbox. The problem is that right now, if you click on a video post, the video can fill up 2/3rds of the screen or even more, making the video clip unwatchable. To work around this issue, you can use the zoom out setting on your browser but that makes this more complicated than it should be. A fixed-size or proportional-size video playback frame (is that the right technical term?) is needed.

and it's not on my subscribed communities. I'm not banned because I still be able go to the community. But can't post or subscribe. I can go to other kbin.social communities.

EDIT I can't find it. When I search for "PC Gaming".

EDIT 2 I tried sh.itjust.works. It shows up in search and you can go to it. But all of the posts are from kbin.social users. You don't see non-kbin.social users posts. So what's going on?

I'd like to unmod myself from !geometrydash@lemmy.world, but I don't see any button to do it, and by quick research the actions suggested do not appear for me.

I don't see an option via a comment of mine:

And neither over the sidebar:

I run a community called, c/mmababes, where I post pics of martial artists who have given me their consent. I want to start posting short video clips as well but the video hosting options I'm aware of are not adequate (on Reddit you could upload video clips directly to the site and this was a good solution, minus the issues with playback quality).

Gfycat used to be a great option for hosting short video clips, which could be made private so that users of that site couldn't view them unless they had links to them. Unfortunately, Snap pulled the plug on Gfycat.

The next best option is RedGIFS but the problem is that it's primarily for adult content and I don't think that people who have trusted me with their video clips would appreciate me uploading them to a site that hosts porn.

Are there any alternatives?

If not, will this feature be added in the future?

I seem not to be able to create a post in the community !theNetherlands@feddit.nl. When I tap the ‘Create’ button, instead of creating the post, it just keeps spinning forever and never actually creates the post. I’m using the regular Lemmy.world web UI on Safari on iPadOS 16.6.1.

How can I solve this?

One of my recent posts (link) has 26 comments, but on both lemmy.world's web site and various mobile apps I only see 3 when logged in. I can see the missing comments in Inbox/Notifications but not the thread. If I log out, I can see all the comments.

Is it possible we could get some feature where people can livestream? I really miss Reddit Sessions but they were very clear it’s not being reinstated.

If it’s not possible or too expensive I apologize - I just thought I’d ask.

I love how it's possible to create posts on Lemmy directly from Mastodon. I've been doing this a lot over on !coys@lemmy.world following guidance published here.

It works nicely when an image is attached to a Mastodon post but not so much when you're posting a link. Does anyone know if there's a way to format the Mastodon post so that the link is picked up by Lemmy to be used as the URL field? It would make sense if it simply used the first link found. That's what it does for images: it uses the first image and ignores the rest.

But maybe this isn't possible with links just yet?

As it stands, posting a link creates a discussion post type rather than link post type.

I noticed that my server import the bans from other instances. I think it's a great feature at the moment where there is no complains of anyone creating servers to abuse it, but I feel like it's bound to happen if there is no safety for it.

If we want to keep it easy for creating servers, maybe they should have a trust level, that could be set either manually or with some heuristics. I like the idea of some heuristics with the option for the admins to take some manual action.

(dunno if it's the right place to discuss that, is there some more appropriate community to ask things about lemmy itself, since this one is specific to lemmy.world?)

I am the mod for two communities, one I created and one I was added. I don’t see where I can edit the sidebar, etc. I can edit and delete posts, and when editing I can pin a post. This is on Edge for windows (work computer) and safari at home and iPhone. Is there something extra I need to download? I am (clearly) not a programmer, just trying to do my part for the greater good. 😁. I also can’t save my Matrix ID on my profile, keep getting error about my language choice. @zerlyna:matrix.org. Thanks!!

Hey, I've been trying to subscribe to !audioproductiondeals@lemmit.online for a couple of days now and know the drill about searching it first and waiting for it to sync, but it doesn't seem to be doing the job.

It looks like other lemmit.online communities seem to work fine, but this one seems to stubbornly refuse to show up.

Is there something I'm missing here?

24

It's related to the flood I mentioned in an earlier post, but I think more people can want to do similar things, sharing all their content on lemmy to make it discoverable. I think people might want to do it for different legitimate reasons, and I'm not sure what the right way to do it is.

Ideally there should be a way to create a thread without showing it on "new", or even better, lemmy should limit automatically how much space a community or server can take on the global "new" lists

This is probably a stupid question, but if I want to add a line to a PDF telling people to direct any comments to my Lemmy account, how would I specify that?
